UPDATE 10:30 a.m. CDT FRIDAY: Sorry folks, we are booked. That didn't take long at all. Chicago fans love the Doctor, obviously. I wish we could take a larger group, but thank you for reading and watching and getting in touch.

RedEye will take the names of the first 200 people to RSVP. That will get you on the guest list but an RSVP does not guarantee admission. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. They advise people on the guest list to show up early. More details are on their website.

How to RSVP:
  • Send your RSVP to showpatroltv@gmail.com with DOCTOR WHO in the subject line. Provide your name and neighborhood or city.

David Tennant stars in United

Thursday, 7 April 2011 - Reported by Harry Ward
The BBC has released more information about the new BBC Two drama starring David Tennant as coach Jimmy Murphy.

United is based on the true story of Manchester United's legendary "Busby Babes", the youngest side ever to win the Football League; the 1958 Munich Air Crash that claimed eight of their number; and the extraordinary spirit of a city that rebuilt the team in the wake of the disaster. The Munich Air Crash killed 23 of the 43 passengers on board, including supporters, journalists and embassy staff.

The drama was shot between November and December 2010 in and around the north of England and was written by Chris Chibnall and directed by James Strong, both of whom have previously worked on Torchwood and Doctor Who.

Tennant was asked in an interview with BBC; "What attracted you to United?"
I've worked with James Strong and Chris Chibnall several times before and James sent me the script. I knew it would be worth reading because it came from him. I'm not a football expert but I was completely bowled over by the incredible story and journey that Manchester United went on. I thought that if it had grabbed and moved me as much as that, then clearly the story must be universal, worth telling and something I wanted to be part of.
You can read the full interview here.

United will broadcast in Week 17, 23rd - 29th April. An exact time and date is still to be announced.

Doctor Who for Week 17 - time and date still to be announced!

Thursday, 7 April 2011 - Reported by Chuck Foster
The BBC Press Office have released details for Week 17 (23-29 April) which, though it confirms Doctor Who will be on that week, still doesn't give an actual time or date for broadcast!

Doctor Who Magazine reported in its new edition that the series will commence from 23rd April; Saturday programmes mentioned in the BBC press item include So You Think You Can Dance, on between 6:30-7:30pm, and Casualty at a time yet to be confirmed. This implies that The Impossible Astronaut could be broadcast either before or after the talent show.

In previous years, Doctor Who has premiered at: Rose (7:00pm, 45m); New Earth (7:05pm, 45m); Smith and Jones (7:00pm, 45m); Partners in Crime (6:45pm, 50m); The Eleventh Hour (6:25pm, 65m). If the time for So You Think You Can Dance doesn't alter, indications are that this premiere might be broadcast at either the earliest or latest time so far since the series returned!

The online version of the Radio Times publishes a fortnight ahead, so the BBC1 and other channel schedules for the 23rd April should appear this Sunday. However schedules for the week of 23rd April will not be fixed until shortly before they are sent to listing magazines around 14th April and any times published before that should be regarded as provisional.

The Press Office synopsis for the episode:
Doctor Who – The Impossible Astronaut Ep 1/7
New this week
Day and time to be confirmed BBC ONE

Four envelopes, numbered two, three and four – each containing a date, time and map reference, unsigned, but TARDIS blue – begin the latest series of the time-travelling adventures. Who sent them? And who received the missing number one?

This strange summons reunites The Doctor, Amy, Rory and River Song in the middle of the Utah desert and unveils a terrible secret that The Doctor's friends must never reveal to him.

Placing his life entirely in their hands, The Doctor agrees to search for the recipient of the fourth envelope. Just who is Canton Everett Delaware the Third? And what is the relevance of their only other clue: "Space 1969"? Their quest lands them in the Oval Office, where they are enlisted by President Nixon himself to assist enigmatic former FBI agent Canton in saving a terrified little girl from a mysterious spaceman.

SFX Issue 208 & Readers' Poll

Wednesday, 6 April 2011 - Reported by Harry Ward
This month's issue of SFX features the Doctor and Amy Pond on the front cover, plus a world exclusive preview of the new series of Doctor Who and results of the Craziest Ever Doctor Who Poll.

Doctor Who content in this issue:
  • World first TARDIS sound effect cover! If there’s a problem with magazines, it’s the not-insignificant lack of sound effects to accompany your literary journey. The good news? This is a problem of the past (for one issue at least…) thanks to the world first TARDIS soundcard tucked inside issue 208.
  • Look Who’s Back! To celebrate The Doctor’s imminent return to telly boxes across the globe we popped down to the big smoke to snap time-travelling trio Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill for our exclusive cover feature. There’s some words with that Steven Moffat bloke in there somewhere too.
See a full list of non-Doctor Who related content from this issue here.

Issue 208 of SFX is on sale from Thursday 7 April.

A few weeks ago SFX.co.uk asked fans to vote in a number of categories for their Craziest Ever Doctor Who Poll. The results have been announced today on their website. Fans thought Helena Bonham Carter would make the best first female Doctor. She received 14.79% of the nearly 2,000 fans who voted. In second place with 9.5% is Tamsin Greig, who played a nurse in The Long Game.

Dave Golder, online editor of SFX.co.uk said:
Some might argue that Helena Bonham Carter’s whole career has been one long dress rehearsal for the part. The Doctor has always been an eccentric and actresses don’t come much more eccentric than Helena. Of all the Doctors so far she is probably most like a female Tom Baker, though we can see little bits of Troughton, Tennant and Smith in there too. What should she wear? A black wedding dress probably.
