New Series Promo Card - Updated 1 NovBookmark and Share

Wednesday, 27 October 2004 - Reported by Shaun Lyon
Updated 1 November   Tenth Planet attended the Brand Licensing Event in London. BBC Worldwide were there promoting their different brands and giving away Doctor Who promotional cards, and Tenth Planet posted the card, of which we've now obtained a better version of the graphic. The back of the postcard reads: "The Doctor looks and seems human. He's handsome, sexy and witty, and could be mistaken for just another man in the street. But the Doctor is a Time Lord: a 900 year old alien with 2 hearts, part of a gifted civilisation who mastered time travel. Christopher Eccleston plays the Doctor, and Billie Piper is Rose in the thrilling new series of Doctor Who, on BBC TV in Spring 2005. Brace yourself for some exhilarating experiences and deadly confronations across time and space. The human race will survive - but only with the Doctor's help." BBC contact details follow on the card. Click on the image at right for a larger version. (Thanks to Roger Anderson)

Big Finish UpdateBookmark and Share

Thursday, 21 October 2004 - Reported by Shaun Lyon
Brief update at the Big Finish website: single and double CD's have increased slightly in price in the UK, but subscription and overseas rates will remain the same as at present. The reasons are at their site. Also posted: the cover for the final chapter of the Dalek Empire 3 six-CD set, "The Future"; click on the thumbnail at right for a larger version. They've also updated with the cover for The Juggernauts (which we posted here on Outpost Gallifrey a while back) and some other updates to their various spinoff series. One of them, the Bernice Summerfield series, has a slight change: instead of "The Purpura Pawn," the title of the forthcoming novella trilogy being released in hardcover late in the year is now called A Life in Pieces.

Hitchhikers on CDBookmark and Share

Thursday, 21 October 2004 - Reported by Shaun Lyon
The audio adaptation of the third series of Douglas Adams' classic satire The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy is out on October 25, having been broadcast over the past several weeks on BBC Radio 4. Based loosely on his aborted screenplay "Doctor Who and the Krikkitmen," the story for the third series (which reunited the original cast) eventually wound up as the third book in the series, "Life, The Universe and Everything" and has been adapted for radio and, now, audio. The CD and cassette release includes 25 minutes of exclusive & previously unheard footage. The cover illustration is at right. Meanwhile, series stars Geoffrey McGivern (Ford), Stephen Moore (Marvin), Susan Sheridan (Trillian), William Franklyn (the Book, and recently featured in the Doctor Who audio "The Roof of the World" from Big Finish) and series director Dirk Maggs will be signing the CD's at Forbidden Planet in London on October 30 from 12-1pm. Confidential UpdateBookmark and Share

Thursday, 21 October 2004 - Reported by Shaun Lyon
The official site has some further details on the forthcoming documentary series Doctor Who Confidential, which we first discussed in a news report in early October. The details come in the form of an interview with executive producer Mark Cossey. "Confidential is its own beast," Cossey told the official site. "[I]t will be more observational than the others, more of a documentary but with an entertainment edge. Like Doctor Who, we just want to tell a good story and give the audience an insight into the legend that is Doctor Who." It mentions that the access of the documentary team to the production is rather extensive, and will focus almost exclusively on the new show. There is no word as to whether it will be released on DVD or not with the first season of the new series.
