K9 - Series and Merchandise Update

Monday, 5 December 2011 - Reported by Chuck Foster
Back when the first series of K9 premiered on Channel 5 during the festive period last year, we reported that a second series was in development. Producer Paul Tams has updated us with its progress:
K9 series two is still in the works with over half the finance secured, given the world's economic climate that is quite an achievement so far. The new year will see further developments there. Series one has gained momentum in other territories, Russia, Turkey on ATV and the Cartoon Network across Asia and still appears on Disney XD. I can reveal that an upgrade to the new look K9 has been done which we are very happy with.

We have also been very busy with the development of two other TV shows, unrelated to K9, but hopefully fans will like them, news next year on them.
In the meantime both the first and second volumes of Series One are still available on DVD.

Merchandise

The Complete Book of K9 is to be released next year, with pre-orders expected to begin in February. The glossy hardback book is in full colour featuring the life and career of K9, from his travels in time and space with the Doctor to appearing in his very own series. With anecdotes from many of the people involved with K9 over the years, the volume also features exclusive never seen before designs, photos and behind the scenes stories.

Delayed from September, The K9 Story Book is now expected to be released to tie in with a repeat run of Series One on Channel 5 next year (dates to be confirmed). The full colour book features short stories, comic strips and behind-the-scenes features.

Also released imminently is a collectible K9 Figurine, a display figure designed to complement the Character Options range. A limited edition version with signed postcards has been made available through The Who Shop, and the figurine will be generally available from other retailers from 10th December (pre-order from Forbidden Planet).

Updates on merchandise etc. can be found via the K9 Official website and through Facebook.

(with thanks to Paul Tams)

It will be my last work on the range after 9 years.
15 Oct Ed Stradling no plans for a CGI Skarasen at this stage I'm afraid
15 Oct Ed Stradling the DVD range comes to an end soon and Zygons is my last commission.
Then it's time for me to do something else!
17 Oct Chris Chapman Back on the edit for our new doco (a secret one for now) -

Children's Favourite Toy Range

Thursday, 20 October 2011 - Reported by Chuck Foster

Dubit, a specialist youth research and marketing agency, recently undertook a survey of the impact of children's television shows and their toys, with Doctor Who's licensed merchandise proving the most popular - 32% of the 500 7-11 year olds surveyed owning toys from the range. Nickelodeon's SpongeBob Squarepants came second at 29%, with other high scorers including their Peppa Pig and Dora the Explorer, Cartoon Network's Ben 10, and CITV's Horrid Henry.

Also, children were able to rate their toys on a scale of 1-5, with Doctor Who toys again faring well, achieving joint top with 4.7 alongside the BBC's In The Night Garden.

The surveys also took into account how aware children actually were of the programmes their toys come from; Doctor Who achieved a very high 90% awareness, with only SpongeBob Squarepants known by more at 94%. SpongeBob also fares best in terms of those who actually watch the programmes at 57%; here the Doctor was third at 52%, with Horrid Henry taking second place at 56%.

More details on the survey, including other programmes surveyed, can be found in a Toynews report.

Doctor Who: The Complete Series Six Boxed Set confirmed for 21st November

Tuesday, 27 September 2011 - Reported by Chuck Foster
2|Entertain have now confirmed that the Complete Series Six boxed set will be released in the United Kingdom on the 21st November 2011 on Blu-ray and DVD:

The Doctor, Amy and Rory return to face monsters, mysteries and adventures all across time and space in the the action-packed sixth series.

Together they find themselves in Sixties America, battling the invasion the world forgot, then journey on the high seas of 1696 aboard a pirate ship, to solve the mystery of the Siren. In a bubble universe at the very edge of reality, the Doctor meets an old friend with a new face, and in a monastery on a remote island in the near future, an industrial accident takes on a terrible human shape. They also venture across centuries and galaxies, where they encounter the greatest war criminal in all of history - and Hitler. They'll also discover there's no scarier place in the universe than a child's bedroom and a visit to an alien quarantine facility will reveal to Rory a very different side to his wife. In a hotel where walls move, corridors twist and rooms vanish, death lies waiting. But the Doctor's time has yet to come. He has one last stop to make on his final journey - an old friend needs his help and an old foe must be defeated. But time catches up with us all and the Doctor can delay no more.
As previously revealed by the BBFC earlier in the month, only four episodes will be accompanied by a commentary this year, covering The Impossible Astronaut, The Doctor's Wife, A Good Man Goes To War, and The Wedding of River Song. However, as usual all thirteen episodes of the series have their accompanying episode of Doctor Who Confidential Cut Down.

Also included with the release are last year's festive treat, A Christmas Carol, the Comic Relief mini-episode Space & Time, and the five series preludes released online through the BBC's Doctor Who site; though not listed in the press release, the Script to Screen mini-episode Death is the Only Answer is also expected to be included. The set also sees the addition of five new mini-episodes, themed "Night and the Doctor", which have been written exclusively for the release by Steven Moffat, plus a special Confidential to accompany them, The Night's Tale.

The boxed set will also contain the four Monster Files released with the previous, individual Part 1 and Part 2 series sets.

The DVD boxed set will also be released as a limited edition "Silence" version, which will also include four lenticular prints.
