The new Doctor Who Magazine (out 12th January) features an exclusive interview with Robert Banks Stewart, writer of the two highly regarded stories Terror of the Zygons and The Seeds of Doom featuring as this month's choice of covers.

The writer is also the original writer of audio adventure The Foe From The Future which sees Fourth Doctor (Tom Baker) travelling alongside companion Leela (Louise Jameson) - the first part of which can be listened to for free via the magazine. Discussing his unused 1970s script:

The first three episodes were very much my kind of thing ... you’ve only got to read the first two or three pages to see that I was writing a sort of a thriller, before taking the story off into what was hopefully an unexpected direction...

Details for the fourth Doctor Who Companion volume covering the adventures of the Eleventh Doctor have been released by Doctor Who Magazine. This edition picks up from the last volume, covering the episodes from The Rebel Flesh through to The Girl Who Waited, plus the special introduction to the National Television Awards.

The new Doctor Who Magazine (out 20th October) celebrates the life of Elisabeth Sladen in a special 100-page issue. Among those paying tribute are Doctors Tom Baker, David Tennant and Matt Smith.

Tom Baker describes Sladen's death in April as "a terrible blow" and remembers being overwhelmed by the public reaction:

Such an outpouring of grief, the spontaneous grief of people, the extravagance of people saying how great and wonderful she was, sprang out of that shock that we’ve lost part of a culture generated by a programme that goes back… well, she was with me in 1974, and she only died this year. She was a piece of television, wasn’t she? A piece of people’s lives, their childhoods…

The new Doctor Who Magazine (out 25th August) celebrates the return of Doctor Who to our screens this weekend, with previews of the first four stories in this second half of the series, Let's Kill Hitler, Night Terrors, The Girl Who Waited and The God Complex, plus interviews with Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, Alex Kingston, Steven Moffat, Mark Gatiss, Tom MacRae and Toby Whithouse.

On the controversial title of the first episode:

Matt Smith: It’s Steven [Moffat, writer of Let’s Kill Hitler] being brilliant and mischievous. Also, it’s a direct reference to a line in the episode...

Karen Gillan: Pretty intense laughter from me, too, when Steven told us. It’s just the best title ever… We were, like, ‘Amazing.’ I just love it, because it sounds a little bit controversial. But the subject matter is tackled really well in the episode...

Steven Moffat: Hitler was through and through, appallingly, disgustingly evil. Hitler would be deeply pissed off to know that we treated him as a minor comic character in an episode of Doctor Who. But actually the Hitler story is a bit of a red herring. It’s actually a blatant continuation of A Good Man Goes to War...

The Audit Bureau of Circulations have now released statistics relating to the distribution figures of magazines for the first half of 2011, which includes details relating to both official publications, Doctor Who Magazine (Panini) and Doctor Who Adventures (BBC).

When compared to previous periods, the data reveals how the average circulation trends have fared:

Yes, I want to come back! The beautiful thing about Doctor Who is, it’s time travel. Matt’s Doctor could go back before Jack met his Doctor. Or Matt’s Doctor could meet a darker Jack...? That’s fine too. There are ways to do it. When he’s in Doctor Who, Jack is very different to the Jack that’s in Torchwood. Everybody knows my love of Doctor Who, and I would do it at the drop of a hat.
