Friday, 24 August 2007 - Reported by Jarrod Cooper

PR-Inside.com has released a story that includes possible spoilers for upcoming seasons of Doctor Who, although they are sourced from off-hand comments made by Russell T Davies in his latest Doctor Who Magazine interview. Please Click on the Spoiler icon below to see the full article.

The story is also being reported by BBC America.
The next actor to play DOCTOR WHO on the hit British sci-fi show has been found - TV star HARRY LLOYD.
The show's boss Russell T Davies was impressed with Lloyd when the actor appeared on a recent episode as a student at a posh school.

And when current Doctor Who David Tennant leaves the series, which is rumoured to be in two year's time (09), Davis [sic] is convinced he has found a ready made replacement.

He says, "After his audition I sent a note to the casting director saying, 'He's not just good for Baines (his character), that's the next Doctor.

Seriously. He's so brilliant." Lloyd currently plays Will Scarlett in the British TV series Robin Hood.

Sun Spoils Children In Need

Monday, 20 August 2007 - Reported by Jarrod Cooper

The Sun has released an article about the forthcoming Children In Need special for Doctor Who. The article comes two days after a similar spoiler was spoken by Sylvester McCoy in New Zealand. As always, nothing has been confirmed by the BBC. Currently the Children In Need telethon is on scheduled for November 16th. Please click on the Spoiler tag below to view the article.
Doctor Who legend Peter Davison is to step back into the Tardis – and come face to face with the current Doctor.

Peter, 56, who played the Timelord in the 1980s, will pull on his famous trenchcoat once again for a Children In Need special.

Bosses are tight-lipped about the storyline, written by Who scribe Stephen Moffat.

But an insider revealed: “The Doctor is forever travelling though time so there’s no reason why he couldn't catch up with a former incarnation.

“Peter was top of the writer’s list to make a comeback."

This year’s Children In Need charity telethon takes place on BBC1 on Friday, November 16.

Casting Rumor

Sunday, 19 August 2007 - Reported by Jarrod Cooper

Digital Spy has announced a casting rumor for Series 4. The story was originally broken by News of the World. There is still no confirmation from the BBC about the rumor at this time. Please Click on the Spoiler button below for more information.
Iconic British actress Joan Collins has reportedly signed up to play a time-travelling villain in the forthcoming season of Doctor Who.

The News of the World claims that 74-year-old Collins, best known for her role as Alexis Carrington Colby in the soap Dynasty, has already signed up for the role of The Doctor's arch nemesis The Rani, a scheming Gallifreyan scientist who appeared twice in the classic series.

The tabloid quotes an insider in the show as saying: "The Doctor Who team are delighted they've managed to sign Joan. It's a real coup. [She's] perfect for the role... like Alexis Colby with a sonic screwdriver."

The Rani was originally portrayed by Kate O'Mara in 1985's 'The Mark of the Rani' opposite Colin Baker and in Sylvester McCoy's debut story 'Time and the Rani' in 1987. O'Mara, who reprised the role in a 1993 Children In Need special, also played Collins' younger sister Cassandra in Dynasty.

Doctor Who Adventures Successes

Thursday, 16 August 2007 - Reported by Jarrod Cooper

In a report released by BBC MagazinesDoctor Who Adventures has become the fastest growing consumer magazine in the UK. Doctor Who Adventures magazine posts the industry's biggest year on year growth, up a staggering 99 percent, selling 47,000 more copies per issue than last period.
Peter Phippen, Managing Director, BBC Magazines says: "Yet again we're posting possibly the best overall set of ABC numbers in the business with our total year-on-year circulation rising by 3% (6% pop). We're also publishing the fastest growing title in the industry with Doctor Who Adventures coming in at a 99% year on year rise. A lot of nonsense is talked about the robustness of the magazine market, in particular monthlies, but our outstanding editorial and professional marketing has won through with the result that all our monthly titles bar one are posting year-on-year growth. Nor is it an issue of whether you should back magazines or websites. We're putting massive investment into our websites and our new ABC brand audits are testament to our belief that cross-media brands are the future – something we've believed in for over twenty years."

Jaynie Bye, Joint Managing Director, BBC Children's Magazines, says: "The astounding success story for us this year has been Doctor Who Adventures magazine which, at 99%, posts the largest year-on-year increase this ABC consumer publishing period. The title continues to smash our predictions and has, over the last six months alone, managed to sell 47,000 additional copies per issue and massively grown its market."

News Bits and Bobs

Saturday, 11 August 2007 - Reported by Josiah Rowe

The British press has lots of stories rehashing the BBC's press release about Series Four: BBC NewsITNThe Sun,The Stage, the Manchester Evening News, the Evening Standard and the South Wales Echo all have stories.

Billie Piper recently suffered a bout of temporary blindness, possibly exacerbated by the flash bulbs of paparazzi cameras. The story is covered at The Daily MirrorITN and Digital Spy. With a stunning lack of self-awareness, The Sun accompanies the story with photographs taken the night Piper was taken ill.

And, in a story about the recent fire at Rome's Cinecitta Studios, Varietymentions in passing that "the BBC is on site preparing to shoot its revived sci-fier "Doctor Who" at Cinecitta in September." The report is taken up by The Sun, which includes a quote attributed to Julie Gardner about the potential shoot (see spoiler below, which includes speculation on the tenth Doctor). The Sun's story was in turn taken up by Digital Spy. If these reports are accurate, it will be the first time the revived series will see full filming outside of the UK (excluding the brief plate shots taken in New York for "Daleks in Manhattan").

Thanks to Nigel Ellis and David McIntee.
FILMING on Doctor Who was thrown into chaos after an Italian film set bosses planned to use, was hit by a fire. Crew on the BBC1 drama flew out to Rome’s Cinecitta studios — where the Beeb filmed their epic Rome series — earlier this week. They plan to make an Ancient Rome-themed episode for Doctor Who’s fourth series there later this year.

But on Thursday night a huge blaze ripped through the studio — destroying masses of expensive BBC equipment. An insider said: "It was a huge blaze. At one point, it looked like the whole studio was a goner. It threw a real spanner in the works for the Doctor Who team. They’re planning an episode where the Doctor goes back in time to Ancient Rome and thought it would be perfect to use the set."

Who bosses still plan to use the set once fire damage has been cleared up, with insiders suggesting crucial parts were still intact. Doctor Who executive producer Julie Gardner said: "Some of the production team have been looking at locations in Italy for the new series. The Doctor will have a Roman adventure.”

Meanwhile, TV Biz can reveal that show star David Tennant is set to take a starring role in a stage version of Hamlet. The Royal Shakespeare Company is set to announce next month that the actor will play the Danish prince in 2008.

Taking the role is likely to mean David is forced to quit Doctor Who before the end of series four — as we predicted.
