BBC Three finished its countdown of Doctor Who: Greatest Monsters & Villains on Sunday evening with the top three Monsters and Villains as voted for by viewers to the channel.

The format featured a three-minute potted history of the featured villain, followed by the screening of an appropriate episode of Doctor Who. Coming in at number 3 was the Master and a screening of the 2007 story Utopia. The episode had an overnight viewing figure of 0.51 million viewers, a 1.9% share of the total audience.

At number two were the Weeping Angels, the episode the 2007 story which introduced the Angels Blink. It was watched by 0.66 million, a 2.4% share.

Finally for the series, at number 1 were the show's longest-running villains the Daleks. The episode shown was the 2005 story which introduced the menace to a whole new generation of fans, the Christopher Eccleston story Dalek. It was watched by an average 0.69 million viewers, a 2.6% share. BBC Three was the highest-watched digital channel during the transmission of the series.

BBC Three continuted its countdown of Doctor Who: Greatest Monsters & Villains on Saturday evening.

The format features a three minute potted history of the featured villain, followed by the screening of an appropriate episode of Doctor Who. Coming in at number 6 were the Ice Warriors and a screening on a story from the most recent series of Doctor Who Cold War. The episode had an overnight viewing figure of 0.33 million viewers, a 1.4% share of the total audience.

At five were the Cybermen, the episode shown the 2008 Christmas story The Next Doctor. It was watched by 0.58 million a 2.5% share.

Finally for the evening, at number 4 were The Silence. The Impossible Astronaut / Day of the Moon was screened and was watched by an average 0.69 million viewers, a 4.3% share. BBC Three was the second highest watched digital channel for most of the evening, with Die Hard 4.0 on E4 taking the top spot.

BBC Three launched its Doctor Who: Greatest Monsters & Villains Weekend on Friday evening, a ten part series looking back at some of the greatest monsters of the series, hosted by stand up comic & impractical joker, Joel Dommett.

The format features a three minute potted history of the featured villain, followed by the screening of an appropriate episode of Doctor Who. Episode 1 featured the Judoon and was followed by a screening of Smith and Jones. It achieved an overnight viewing figure of 0.37 million viewers, a 1.7% share of the total TV audience. Episode 2 was dedicated to The Silurians and featured A Good Man Goes To War. It achieved an overnight viewing figure of 0.42 million viewers, a 1.7% share of the total TV audience.

At number 8, episode 3 revolved around the the Ood and was followed by the 2008 story Planet of the Ood. It had 0.40 million viewers with 1.6% share. Finally for the evening, episode 4 looked at the Clockwork Droids and featured a screening of The Girl in the Fireplace. The episode had 0.55 million viewers with a 2.5% share.

BBC Three outrated the other digital channels for most of the evening, just edging ahead of ITV2 and ITV3.

Thursday's showing of The Science of Doctor Who had an Appreciation Index of 85. Buzzcocks: The Doctor Who Special had an AI of 82.

The Science of Doctor Who - Overnight Viewing Figures

The Science of Doctor Who had an average overnight audience of 2.6 million viewers, according to unofficial figures.

The lecture in which Professor Brian Cox explains the physics that allows Doctor Who to travel through space and time, was the second highest rated programme on BBC Two for the day. It scored a 12.1% share of the total audience, beating the ITV offering, Breathless, which had 2.2 million watching. On BBC One the fundraising concert, Children in Need Rocks, had an average of 4.2 million viewers. Bedlam, on Channel 4 had 1.2 million watching with Slaughter at the Farm: Countdown to Murder getting 1.3 million.

Overall The Science of Doctor Who was the 16th most watched programme of the day. The programme is available to UK viewers on the BBC iPlayer and is repeated next Friday on BBC Two at 11.05pm.

The repeat of Buzzcocks: The Doctor Who Special, hosted by David Tennant and featuring Bernard Cribbins and Catherine Tate, had an average audience of 1.6 million watching, an audience share of 8.5%, and was 28th for the day.

Doctor Who. The VaultDoctor Who News is offering a copy of the official 50th Anniversary book, Doctor Who: The Vault, to the person who can most accurately guess the BBC One ratings for the UK premiere of The Day of the Doctor.

The aim is to guess the final consolidated viewing figure, as reported by BARB to the nearest 10,000 viewers (i.e. two decimal places). This figure includes all those watching the episode within a week of broadcast, but does not include those watching on iPlayer.
The Day of the Doctor is being broadcast in the UK on Saturday 23rd November at 7.50pm, later than normal Doctor Who episodes. On BBC One it follows Strictly Come Dancing, the latest edition of the Dancing With the Stars format, which achieved a rating of 11.09 million viewers in the most recent reported week. Doctor Who will be opposite The X Factor on ITV, which had 8.67 million viewers in the most recent week.

Doctor Who Prom: The Next DoctorThe 2013 Doctor Who Prom had a final consolidated audience of 1.45 million viewers, a share of 15.1% of the total TV audience at the time.

The show, broadcast on BBC One during the August Bank Holiday afternoon, increased both the share and the audience from the initial overnight numbers, with the consolidated figures including those who recorded the show and watched it within a week.

The show won its timeslot and achieved an Appreciation Index score of 87, with 76% of the audience surveyed saying the programme was high quality.

Over 230,000 have also accessed the Prom on the BBC iPlayer.

Doctor Who Live: The Next DoctorThe 2013 Doctor Who Prom was watched by 1.2 million viewers, according to unofficial overnight viewing figures.

The show, broadcast on BBC One yesterday afternoon, had a share of 13.3% of the total television audience. The audience built throughout the 75 minute programme, peaking at 1.6 million for the final quarter hour. It won the timeslot beating The Incredible Hulk on ITV, which had 0.9 million watching.

Doctor Who Live: Global Audience

Doctor Who Live: The Next DoctorGlobal ratings are now available for last weekend’s broadcast of Doctor Who Live: The Next Doctor, with the BBC estimating over 1.5 million fans around the world joined the 6.2 million who watched the show in the United Kingdom.

In the United States, BBC America reported 895,000 total viewers for the show which was broadcast at 2pm Eastern Time. This made it the best telecast ever outside of primetime among the 25-54 demographic, and it was only beaten by The Royal Wedding as the best non-prime telecast ever on the channel.

According to Trendrr.TV the 30-minute TV event was the most talked about TV show, apart from sport, on social media in the US, beating the likes of Justin Bieber: Never Say Never on MTV and Keeping Up With The Kardashians on E. On Tumblr, there were 11.84 million views of the Official US Doctor Who Tumblr since the show’s announcement, and fans created 3 million Doctor Who-related reblogs on the day of the show. Twitter activity around the special was double the sci-fi series’ season average for BBC America and at the peak of the activity, six out of the ten trending topics in the US were related to the announcement. Doctor Who continues to be the highest rating programme on the network.

In Canada the show was broadcast on SPACE, which reported 412,000 viewers at its peak for the special, making it the number one network for the key 18-54 demographic during that time.

While in Australia, 40,000 sacrificed sleep to tune into the live broadcast at 4am ET with a total of 200,000 watching the show or its repeat on ABC2. An additional 41,000 have so far watched the programme on iview, ABC’s catch up service.

Doctor Who takes over Twitter

Doctor Who Live: The Next DoctorThe BBC has revealed the extent to which Sunday's announcement of the next Doctor took over the twitter-sphere, with the Corporation counting a total of 542,000 tweets reacting to the news that Peter Capaldi would be taking on the role come Christmas.

During the live show, Doctor Who Live; The Next Doctor, the number of tweets averaged 9,000 per minute, jumping to 22,081 a minute as the new Doctor was revealed, the highest TV tweet minute peak recorded this year.

The tweet with the first photograph from the official site was re-tweeted over 25,000 times.

For most of Sunday, during the build up to the announcement, #DoctorWho trended in the UK. Showrunner Steven Moffat trended number 1 in the UK and worldwide while former Doctor David Tennant trended at number 3 worldwide. The Twitter domination continued and at one point 7 of the ten UK’s trends were Doctor Who-related.


The audience for the live show peaked at 6.9 million in the UK and scored an Appreciation Index of 73.

Doctor Who Live: overnight viewing figures

Doctor Who Live: The Next DoctorDoctor Who Live; The Next Doctor was watched by 6.1 million viewers in the UK, according to unofficial overnight figures.

The audience peaked at 6.9 million viewers at the moment Peter Capaldi was unveiled as the 12th Doctor. The live broadcast was the highest rated show of Sunday, achieving a share of 29.8% of the total television audience. Second for the day was Countryfile with 5.6 million watching, while the evening News, including news of Capaldi's casting as The Doctor had 4.8 million watching.

ITV's highest rated show of the day was Law and Order:UK with 4.2 million viewers. Against the Doctor Who reveal, Tipping Point: Lucky Stars had 3.9 million viewers.

Final official figures will be available next week. The Live show was also broadcast in the USA, Canada and Australia.
