BBC Worldwide have provided some more detail on the new features to be included in the two disc special edition version of Fifth Doctor story The Visitation:

• Grim Tales (dur 45’09”) – cast members Peter Davison, Janet Fielding and Sarah Sutton are taken on a trip back to the filming locations used in the story by fellow TARDIS travelling companion Mark Strickson. A slice of a very impressive cake awaits them at the manor house in return for their memories of the time...
  
  
• The Television Centre of the Universe – Part One (dur 32’12”) – Blue Peter presenter Yvette Fielding takes Peter Davison, Mark Strickson and Janet Fielding on a trip through BBC Television Centre, meeting up with old friends and colleagues as they reminisce on their time spent working in the iconic building. With film traffic supervisor Neville Withers, assistant floor manager Sue Hedden, costume designer Odile Dicks-Mireaux, production assistant Jane Ashford, make-up artists Joan Stribling and Carolyn Perry, and BBC producer and writer Richard Marson.
  
  
• Doctor Forever – The Apocalypse Element (dur 27’29”) – the latest instalment of our new series looks at the work of those who kept Doctor Who alive in the form of audio adventures following the TV’s show’s cancellation in 1989. With actors Colin Baker, William Russell and Lisa Bowerman, new series executive producer Russell T Davies, Big Finish executive producers Jason Haigh-Ellery, Nicholas Briggs and Gary Russell, Big Finish producer David Richardson, BBC range editor Steve Cole, writers Mark Gatiss, Robert Shearman, Paul Cornell, Joseph Lidster and Justin Richards, and AudioGO commissioning editor Michael Stevens. Introduced by Ayesha Antoine.

The DVD is due to be released in the United Kingdom (R2) on 6th May 2013 and in North America (R1) on 14th May 2013.

The first in a new range of classic Doctor Who soundtracks will be released next week by Silva Screen Records, delving back to the end of the Fifth's Doctor's era with Roger Limb's score for The Caves of Androzani.


The soundtrack has been restored by Mark Ayres, who explained to us the differences between these new CD presentations and the isolated scores that have been presented on some of the classic series DVDs in the past:


The Caves of Androzani is released on the 25th March 2013 and is available for pre-order.

BBC Worldwide have confirmed the special features for the forthcoming release of Inferno (Special Edition) on DVD. The two-disc set has been provisionally scheduled for release on the 27th May for R2, and on the 5th June for R4 (a R1 release date has yet to be confirmed).

The Mind of Evil:

Following Inferno is the last Pertwee adventure to premiere on DVD - but the first time it has been seen in colour for over three and a half decades! The Mind of Evil is currently scheduled for release in the United Kingdom on 3rd June, and the BBFC have recently classified features that will accompany the story:

The Behind The Scenes has been reported to be a segment from an educational series, which in this episode focusses on twenty-four hours at BBC Television Centre and includes sets from The Mind of Evil.

The story was premiered last weekend at the BFI (see our review for more details), and will also be shown as part of the the Birmingham Flatpack Festival on 30th March, and at the Belfast Film Festival on 18th April. Following its release, a signing for both The Mind of Evil and Inferno will take place in London on the 8th June - see the Fantom Films website for more details.

Coming Soon:

The BBFC have classified "Coming Soon" trailers for the forthcoming stories: Inferno (1m2s); The Mind of Evil (1m12s); Terror of the Zygons (1m9s); and The Green Death (1m22s). Though scheduled for later in the year, the trailer for The Ice Warriors appeared on the just released The Aztecs Special Edition (reviewed here).

The Underwater Menace:

Frazer Hines mentions in the current issue of Doctor Who Magazine that whilst visiting BBC Television Centre for filming of Pointless Celebrities (to be broadcast on the 23rd March), the previous time he had visited the 'home' of the BBC was to record a commentary which he believes to have been for The Underwater Menace; last year special sound recordist Brian Hodgson had also suggested he'd recorded a commentary for the story.

Episode Two of the story, recovered in 2011, is the only remaining episode of classic Doctor Who yet to be formally scheduled for released on DVD (episode three was released in 2004's Lost in Time DVD boxed set).

Doctor Who: 50th Anniversary Board Game:

Whilst not strictly speaking a part of the main release range, some 100 clips from Doctor Who running to 74m28s have been passed by the BBC for the forthcoming 50th Anniversary Board Game.

Sunday 10th March sees the broadcast of the five-part 1971 Jon Pertwee story The Daemons in Australia and New Zealand. The story is the tenth instalment in the 50th Anniversary season of classic Doctor Who stories on the UKTV channel.

The story is scheduled in New Zealand at 3:45pm and in Australia at 4:00pm. New Zealand has a additional screening on Monday 11th March at 3:40am.

The Daemons was first broadcast in New Zealand in 1985. The following year, Australians got to see it for the first time.

UKTV is showing stories every week throughout the year in the lead-up to the anniversary in November. The Daemons is the second in a set of four stories featuring Jon Pertwee's Doctor scheduled to screen in March. The next two stories are The Three Doctors (17th March) and Death to the Daleks (24th March). No story is scheduled on the last Sunday of this month.

The story is scheduled in New Zealand at 4:15pm and in Australia at 4:30pm. New Zealand has a additional screening on Monday 4th March at 3:50am.

Spearhead from Space was first broadcast in Australia in 1971. New Zealanders first got to see it in March 1975 (38 years ago this month).

UKTV is showing stories every week throughout the year in the lead-up to the anniversary in November. Spearhead from Space is the first of a set of four stories featuring Jon Pertwee's Doctor scheduled to screen in March. The next three stories are The Daemons (10th March), The Three Doctors (17th March), and Death to the Daleks (24th March). There is no story scheduled on UKTV on the last Sunday of March.

BBC Worldwide have finally confirmed that August's DVD release of Second Doctor adventure The Ice Warriors will indeed include animated versions of the missing episodes two and three, as well as the previously announced 'telesnap' version of the episodes that originally appeared on the 1998 VHS release.

Unlike January's The Reign of Terror, animation for these episodes has been created by Qurios, an award-winning animation and visual effects production studio based in London and Newcastle, and who have previously worked on the range providing titles for the Who Peter features.

The DVD is currently scheduled to be released on 26th August.

Sunday 24th February sees the broadcast of the six-part 1969 Patrick Troughton story The Seeds of Death in Australia and New Zealand. The story is the eighth instalment in the 50th Anniversary season of classic Doctor Who stories on the UKTV channel.

It is scheduled in New Zealand at 3:10pm and in Australia at 3:30pm. New Zealand has an additional screening on Monday 25th February at 3:10am.


The Seeds of Death was first broadcast in Australia in 1970. New Zealanders had to wait until 1988 to see the story when it was first screened as part of TVNZ's Doctor Who 'Silver Jubilee' celebration marking the 25th anniversary in November of that year.

UKTV is showing a story every week throughout the year in the lead-up to the anniversary in November. The Seeds of Death concludes a month of Patrick Troughton adventures.

Next week UKTV shifts its focus to Jon Pertwee's Doctor and the colour era of the programme, beginning with Spearhead from Space on 3rd March.

BBC Worldwide have announced details for the forthcoming release of The Visitation (Special Edition) on DVD. The two-disc set has been provisionally scheduled for release on the 6th May for both its R2 and R1 versions, and on the 24th April for R4.

BBC Worldwide have announced that The Tenth Planet is to be released on DVD in late 2013 and, like last month's The Reign of Terror, will have its missing episode four animated by Planet 55 Studios.

Range producer Dan Hall said:
The story was originally released on VHS in 2000 and featured a reconstruction of the missing episode using existing telesnaps from the episode; it is expected that this version will also be included on the DVD as an extra.

The missing episode marked the end of the First Doctor's adventures, and introduced the revolutionary concept of the appearance of the Doctor changing - a key element of the series mythos that has enabled the series to now celebrate its fiftieth year! Though the 'regeneration' itself survived, along with a few clips, the story itself has been 'lost' from the BBC archives since the 1970s.
