BBC warns about imposters

Thursday, 30 August 2007 - Reported by Jarrod Cooper

The BBC have issued a statement reminding fans to be alert and watch out for online imposters. "There have been several recent cases of people posing as David Tennant in internet chat rooms and forums - as well as setting up social networking profiles in his name. David would like to point out that neither he, nor Catherine Tate use these kinds of sites, chatrooms or forums, and wouldn't want fans to be disappointed or misled if they thought they were talking to the real actors. We would strongly advise all Doctor Who fans for their own safety to ignore any such postings and not be fooled by impersonators - it will never be David or Catherine online."

Follow-up statement from the Outpost Gallifrey site editor: "We support this statement by the BBC. While David Tennant has indeed visited Outpost Gallifrey in the past -- he has stated so several times in interviews with Doctor Who Magazine and other sources -- he has not posted in our Forum, nor is he likely to, and anyone attempting to post in his name would be immediately removed."

Sun's Bowie story is "tish and tosh"

Wednesday, 29 August 2007 - Reported by Josiah Rowe

David Bowie's website has debunked a story in The Sun that claimed Bowie would be appearing in Doctor Who as "an evil alien abductor". The Sun connects the Bowie rumor with the upcoming Agatha Christie story, which they erroneously describe as a two-part special. Bowie's website says, "... the whole story is as much news to [Bowie fans] as it is to him. David Bowie is not planning to star in Dr Who and the whole story is 'absolute tish and tosh'." The Bowie site goes on to mention Dalek operator and Big Finish regular Nicholas Pegg, who is also author of The Complete David Bowie.

UPDATEBBC News has also released a story debunking the Sun's claim. The BBC's story adds that "a spokeswoman for the BBC One show also denied the story.

Bernard Cribbins set for Cameo

Tuesday, 28 August 2007 - Reported by Jarrod Cooper

In the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine, series producer Phil Collinson has announced that Bernard Cribbinswill be making a guest appearance in the 2007 Doctor Who Christmas special, Voyage of the Damned.

It's the third time Cribbins has appeared in Doctor Who, but the first time he's appeared in the TV series! He's probably best known to fans through his appearance as a companion to Peter Cushing's Doctor, the bumbling policeman Tom Campbell, in the 1966 film Daleks: Invasion Earth 2150 AD. He also appeared, earlier this year, as Arnold Lane alongside Paul McGann in the Big Finish/BBC7 eighth Doctor story Horror of Glam Rock.

"This is the icing on the cake, a wonderful addition to an already phenomenal cast," Phil Collinson told Doctor Who Magazine. "It's a wonderful cameo, which kept the entire cast and crew entertained."

Fearless set for September release

Sunday, 26 August 2007 - Reported by Jarrod Cooper

Big Finish has released full information in the first installment of their upcoming series Dalek Empire: The Fearless.

Noel Clarke, who previously played Mickey Smith will be playing the lead role but Big Finish is keen to point out that this is not a return of Mickey Smith. Noel plays Kade, a tough, hard-bitten soldier. 'It's a completely different character for Noel,' explains writer and director, Nick Briggs, 'and it was a delight to watch him lap it up. I think people will see a side to Noel they never knew about. He has such incredible range as an actor, and breath-taking emotional power. You wait until you hear Kade angry. I'm surprised the Daleks didn't just pack up and go home!'

While Noel appeared in the very latest incarnation of Doctor Who on television, his Dalek Empire co-star was involved in the earliest days of the series. Maureen O'Brien was the First Doctor's companion, Vicki, but here she plays a very different sort of character. 'I knew I wanted Maureen to be in this the moment I saw her working on The Companion Chronicles last year,' says Nick. 'She plays General Agnes Landen, a really tough lady, single-minded, convinced she's right. And she and Kade clash!

There is a Windows Media preview for this title available here.
The Daleks are conquering our galaxy. Nothing can stop them. But Commander Agnes Landen has an idea.

On the outer planet Talis Minor, Salus Kade is struggling to keep his colony alive. The last thing he needs is a war to fight.
