More Classic Series Figures

Character Options is to release a range of classic-era figures.

To be launched next spring, in association with BBC Worldwide, the five-inch figures will initially feature detailed replicas of classic Doctors, plus a number of monsters.

Jon Diver, the joint managing director of Character Group, said: "The resounding success of the Doctor Who TV series is made up of both new and existing Doctor Who fans.

"We have reacted to public demand and will be producing a range which greatly enhances the depth and quality of our existing line.

"The classic licence will broaden the collectability and enhance the position of the brand."

S3 To Begin In New Zealand

New Zealand TV channel Prime will broadcast the 2006 Christmas special The Runaway Bride on Sunday, August 19, to start off the run of Series Three.

Assuming each episode then follows every Sunday, the show will run until November 18.

NB: The press pack with cast listings for episodes one to seven (Smith and Jonesto 42) contains a character spoiler for episode two, The Shakespeare Code.

Big Finish Update

Big Finish Productions has relaunched its website with a new layout and updates on the various lines.

Among the many news updates today, the future of the Eighth Doctor series is commented upon.Nick Briggs had the following to say about the upcoming departure of C'rizz and Charley from the series. 'We shall be extremely sad to see them go,' says executive producer, Nick Briggs, 'but all good things come to an end. And we're giving them both a proper, dramatic send-off.'

The Eighth Doctor's travels with Lucie Miller are set to continue with the following statement on the upcoming second series. The series will be released straight onto CD. The final release order has yet to be confirmed but titles and authors are as follows: Grand Theft Cosmos by Eddie Robson, an as yet untitled story by Paul Magrs, The Skull of Sobekby Marc Platt, Max Warp by Jonathan Morris, Plastic Population by Jonathan Clements, Dead London by Pat Mills and the the final two episodes in the series are provisionally titles Kidnapped and Vengeance - both by Nicholas Briggs.

This second season of The New Eighth Doctor Adventures are due to be released early in 2008

Sci Fi Rumors

Sci Fi Wire has released details from an interview with Noel Clarke, which they believe may have casting information for Series 4. For more information, please click on the Spoiler link below.

Noel Clarke hinted that he may be returning to the show in the upcoming season. When asked whether he would be writing any more scripts, he was coy about his availability. "I'm not doing the second series of Torchwood," he said. "Because I'm doing things that I can't talk about."

As for how the writers would explain Mickey's possible return, Clarke offered a vague explanation. "It's a parallel universe, baby," he said. "The only thing I could say is that it's sci-fi, right? And in sci-fi, there's no real rules, is there?"

Torchwood comes to US HDNET

North American High Definition Cable Channel HDNET has announced it has acquired the rights to the first two seasons of Torchwood. It will begin showing the series on September 17th.

"We're thrilled to be airing TORCHWOOD in HD," said Mark Cuban, president and co-founder of HDNet. "This is certainly a Russell T. Davies signature show. TORCHWOOD explores adult themes and doesn't shy away from anything. Whether it's the diverse storylines or the hero's ambivalence to sexual boundaries, this is not your typical show, and I love it."

Nobody's Children

Big Finish Productions have released full information on their forthcomingBernice Summerfield book, Nobody's Children. This release will include three stories:

All Mimsy Were the Borogroves Kate Orman
The Loyal Left Hand Jonathan Blum
Nursery Politics Philip Purser-Hallard

The war is meant to be over. The Draconian Empire has won the day, and the Mim have lost pretty much everything.

That includes the borogoves of Proxima Longissima, the Mim's beloved children. The Draconians claim the borogoves are foundlings, abused and neglected by their parents. In the Empire they will be protected and provided for.

Fearing that his species faces extinction, one of last surviving Mim begs Bernice Summerfield to come and see for herself. Benny just wants to do right by her own son, Peter, and the brother or sister who may follow him. But soon the borogoves are, rather unexpectedly, her godchildren, and Benny becomes their best hope for a future peace.

As if dead oceans and burning deserts weren't hostile enough, Benny must enter the labyrinthine corridors of diplomacy - where right and wrong are questions of perspective, and even her own loved ones are not wholly innocent...

Sun Casting Speculation

WORD has reached TV Biz that the Beeb have found the man to take over as Doctor Who from David Tennant - Cold Feet star James Nesbitt.

David, 36, is expected to quit at the end of the next series and insiders say Irishman James, 42, is a cert to get the Tardis key.

The Jekyll star is pals with Doctor Who writer Steven Moffat, tipped to replace show chief Russell T Davies when he also stands down at the end of the next series.

Our mole said: "Moffat has worked with James on Jekyll and the talk in BBC Drama is that he’s a shoo-in as the next Doctor.

"First a Scottish Doctor - now we could have a Northern Irish one."

James is in the US filming a new BBC show.
