John Barrowman, who played Captain Jack and Julie Gardner, Doctor Who's former Executive Producer, have both been made a MBE in the 2014 Queen's Birthday Honours list.

Julie Gardner was a key member of the team responsible for bringing back Doctor Who in 2005 and relaunching the series for a whole new generation. She was brought into the project in 2003 to work with Russell T Davies on developing the show. Together they were responsible for turning Doctor Who into one of the biggest BBC's most succesful shows, responsible for 60 episodes. She was involved in casting two Doctors, Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant, and creating two spin-offs, Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures. She now works in California as Senior vice president Scripted Projects for BBC Worldwide America.

Gardner, who was born in Neath, near Swansea, has been awarded the honour for "services to the Economic Development of the Television Industry in Wales." She said: she was honored to accept the award.

John Barrowman joined Doctor Who in 2005, playing Captain Jack Harkness in eleven episodes of the series. His success was such that he was given his own spin off series Torchwood, which ran from 2006-2011. The honour was given for his services to entertainment as well as his contribution to charity.

Barrowman, who is currently in Australia , promoting his drama series Arrow, said receiving the award was the proudest day in his life. The actor posted a video expressing his reaction to the news.



The honour makes both a member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. The award is given by Queen Elizabeth on the advice of the British Government.

Peter Capaldi has won the first ever RTS Scotland Award.

The Royal Television Society (RTS), is Britain's leading forum for television and related media. Its Scotland awards cover all forms of production in the nation, recognising excellence and innovation across a range of genres and crafts. April Chamberlain, co-founder of Glasgow-based production company, The Comedy Unit, chaired the Awards juries which met for the first time this year. She said:The RTS Scotland Award, which is given at the discretion of the RTS Scotland Awards committee, was presented to Peter Capaldi, acknowledging his outstanding contribution to television. The citation reads The winners were announced at an awards ceremony at the Oran Mor, Glasgow.

Doctor Who has won two awards at the 35th Banff World Media Festival which took place in Canada over the last three days.

The series was awarded the Rockie Award for Best Science Fiction, Action, and Fantasy as well as getting the prize for Best Scripted Programme, just beating The Big Bang Theory.

The awards jury comprises a large number of media and television executives from around the world.

The drama detailing the creation of Doctor Who, An Adventure in Space and Time, has been nominated for three prestigious Critics’ Choice Television Awards.

The drama itself is nominated in the Best Movie category, where it faces competition from an episode of Sherlock as well as another BBC biopic, Burton and Taylor.

David Bradley, who played William Hartnell in the drama, is nominated for Best Actor in a Movie of Mini Series, while Jessica Raine, who played Doctor Who's first producer Verity Lambert, is nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Movie or Mini Series.

The Critics’ Choice Television Awards honour programs and performances that aired between June 1, 2013 and May 31, and are voted for by US journalists who write about TV.

The Awards will be presented at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Thursday, June 19, 2014 in a ceremony hosted by actor/comedian Cedric the Entertainer.

BBC One has won the Eurovision Connect award for Best Promotion For A Fictional Programme for its work promoting Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary episode.

The award was announced at the Eurovision Connect Conference in Vienna, Austria. The conference is organised by the European Broadcasting Union and brings together about 140 professionals from public service broadcasters throughout Europe.

The Day of the Doctor was broadcast simultaneously around the world in 94 countries. It achieved the Guinness World Record for the largest ever simulcast of a TV drama.

BBC One also won the Best Promotion For An Entertainment Programme/Event for The Voice.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts have released a video of the team behind Doctor Who: Day Of The Doctor receiving the Radio Times Audience Award and talking backstage after Sunday's ceremony.

The Doctor Who fiftieth anniversary story The Day of the Doctor won the Radio Times Audience Award at the 2014 BAFTA Television Awards this evening.

The special, starring Matt Smith, David Tennant and John Hurt, won the award based on the votes of Radio Times readers, beating Breaking Bad, Gogglebox, The Great British Bake Off, Broadchurch and Educating Yorkshire.

The award was collected by the current Head of Drama at BBC Wales and Executive Producer for the special, Faith Penhale, along with Producer Marcus Wilson and Director Nick Hurran.

Penhale paid tribute to showrunner Steven Moffat, saying: Doctor Who last won the audience award in 2006 when it was given the Pioneer Audience Award for Best Programme of 2005.

The drama based on the origins of Doctor Who, An Adventure in Space and Time, missed out on the award for Best Single Drama, which was won by Channel 4's Complicit.

The man who played William Hartnell in the drama, David Bradley, did win an award, although not for that role, winning Best Supporting Actor for his part in Broadchurch.

Broadchurch, which stars David Tennant, also won for Best Drama Series. Other winners included Olivia Colman as Leading Actress for Broadchurch, Sarah Lancashire as Best Supporting Actress for Last Tango in Halifax and James Corden whose Sky series A League Of Their Own won Best Comedy and Comedy Entertainment Programme.

The academy also took time to remember some members of the industry who have died over the past year, including Christopher Barry, Edna Doré, James Ellis, Roger Lloyd Pack, Kate O’Mara and Aubrey Woods.

Radio Times has been short-listed for Cover Of The Year in the 2014 PPA Awards.

The Professional Publishers Association Awards are considered the most coveted in the UK magazine and business publishing industry. Radio Times has been nominated for the edition marking Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary, where the magazine produced 12 different editions, each graced with the face of a different Doctor.

Voting is now open and can be made via the PPA website. Votes will be accepted once a day, every day, until 06 June 2014.

Other magazines nominated include Cosmopolitan, Country Life, Esquire, Harper's Bazaar, Metal Hammer, #studentfarmer, Stylist, The Big Issue and BBC Top Gear. The winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane in London's Mayfair on 10 July.

Doctor Who picked up two BAFTA Television Craft Awards at last night's ceremony, held at The Brewery in London.

The annual event celebrates the very best behind-the-scenes talent in British television of the past year, and the 50th-anniversary special The Day of the Doctor won the Special, Visual & Graphic Effects title, with Milk VFX, Real SFX and The Model Unit being named in the citation, while An Adventure In Space And Time - the BBC Two drama centring on the genesis of Doctor Who - won for Make Up and Hair Design, with Vickie Lang named in the citation.

The triumph by The Day of the Doctor ended a seven-year run of being nominated in that category but losing.

Doctor Who At The Proms 2013, which had been nominated for Entertainment Craft Team, lost out to Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway. An Adventure In Space And Time had also been nominated for Costume Design and Editing - Fiction but was pipped to those titles by Downton Abbey and The Fall respectively.

More success for The Day of the Doctor and An Adventure In Space And Time could be on its way, however, at the TV BAFTAs, as An Adventure In Space and Time has been nominated for Single Drama and The Day of the Doctor is up for the Radio Times Audience Award, with the winner of the latter to be decided by a public vote. The TV BAFTAs will be held at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, London, on Sunday 18th May.

Votes for the Radio Times Audience Award can be cast via the voting page and must be in by midday BST on Thursday 15th May. A valid e-mail address must be given for the vote to count, and only one vote per person is allowed. Duplicate votes from the same person will not be counted.

BAFTA has launched a competition in which somebody can win two tickets to this year's TV Awards by submitting a caption for a photo that includes a Dalek.

As reported earlier this month, An Adventure In Space and Time - the BBC Two drama by Mark Gatiss centring on the genesis of Doctor Who - is in the running for the title of Best Single Drama at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards, while the 50th-anniversary special The Day of the Doctor is up for the Radio Times Audience Award, with the winner of the latter to be decided by a public vote. The victors will be revealed on the BAFTA website, its Facebook page and Twitter feed as they are announced, while exclusive footage will be available on BAFTA's YouTube channel, with the ceremony also being shown on BBC One.

The awards are being held at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, London, on Sunday 18th May, and for your chance to win two tickets to the star-studded event, simply submit to BAFTA a witty and inventive caption for the picture below, which shows a Dalek behind food writer and broadcaster Mary Berry at last year's TV awards ceremony, held at the Royal Festival Hall.
