The AI or Appreciation Index or AI score is a measure of how much an audience enjoyed a programme. The score was the same as that for The Eleventh Hour and is classed as excellent. Doctor Who had the joint highest score on BBC One and ITV 1 for the day, along with Casualty and Harry Potter.

The Sunday repeat was watched by 0.75 million viewers, where it was the 5th most watched programme of the day on multi -channel television. The share was 3.1%. On the main channels, Sunday's Coronation Street got 40,000 more viewers than Saturday's Doctor Who, pushing Doctor Who down to thirteenth place for the week. The position will almost certainly rise when final consolidated figures are published next week.

The Beast Below was watched by 6.7 million viewers, according to unofficial overnight figures.

The programme had an audience of 6.4 million on BBC One, with an additional 330,000 watching on BBC HD. The programme's share was 34%. Although a drop on the previous week, the programme was still the most watched of the day, beating the second-placed National Lottery by 0.8 million viewers. It is very rare for a programme placed so early in the evening to top the ratings for the day, especially on what was, wether-wise, one of the Saturdays of the year so far in the UK.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix performed the best for ITV1, with 5.7 million watching the network premiere. The FA Cup had an average of 3.3 million viewers, with a peak of 4.9 million against Doctor Who.

The highest peak of the day was between 4.15pm and 4.30pm when 7.6 million watched the Grand National horse race on BBC One.

Overall, the programme currently stands as the twelfth most-watched of the week, with Sunday's ratings still to come. A top ten place is still a possibility once the final ratings are calculated next week.

On BBC Three, Doctor Who Confidential was watched by 0.56 million viewers, a 2.7% share of the audience.

The Eleventh Hour scored an Appreciation Index score of 86 making it one of the most enjoyed programmes of the weekend.

The Appreciation Index or AI is a measure of how much an audience enjoyed a programme. Figures are based on ratings from a selected panel of 5000 people. The average score for BBC One is 80 with the average for the current Doctor Who timeslot being 82, and the average for Drama being 85.

The score is higher than previous Doctors' premieres: David Tennant's first appearance in The Christmas Invasion scored 84, and Christopher Eccleston's first story, Rose, scored 76. AI figures tend to grow throughout a series as the audience becomes familiar with the characters and the concept. Doctor Who's highest score so far was 91 for The Stolen Earth and Journey's End.

The programme was most enjoyed by female viewers who rated it significantly higher than males watching. It also scored highest in Scotland and with the 35-54 age group. Viewers generally found the programme high quality, original and different with some missing David Tennant.

Overnight figures for Sunday show nothing could approach the success of Doctor Who on Saturday, with the highest rated show being A Touch of Frost on ITV1 with 7.2 million watching. So The Eleventh Hour was the highest rated show of the Easter weekend and the eighth highest of the whole week.

The Sunday BBC Three repeat was watched by 0.67 million viewers and was the third rated show on multi-channel for Sunday.

Unofficial overnight figures show The Eleventh Hour was watched by 7.7 million viewers on BBC One with another 0.3 million watching on BBC HD, giving a total audience of 8.0 million viewers.

The programme has a share of 36.8% of the total viewing audience.

The programme was by far the most watched on British television on Saturday night, beating second placed Casualty by nearly 2.5 million viewers. The BBC comprehensively ruled the night with the top six programmes and eight out of the top ten. Ant & Dec's Push the Button scored highest for ITV 1 with just 3.9 million watching while Harry Potter had an average of 2.9 million viewers.

With one day to go, Doctor Who is the 8th highest programme of the week in a top ten which, apart from Doctor Who, consists entirely of the soaps EastEnders and Coronation Street.

On BBC Three, Doctor Who Confidential was watched by 0.88 million viewers. The programme had a 4.3% share of the audience and was the second most watched multi-channel programme of the day.

Final figures will be released in about 10 days time.

Last year's Easter special, Planet of the Dead, made its debut in France earlier this week where it was watched by 423,000 viewers.

The episode, called Planète Morte, was dubbed into French and shown on France 4 at 8.35pm. David Manet provided the voice of Le Docteur with Maia Barar playing Christina, Monique Clemont playing Capitaine Magambo, Oliver Cuvellier playing Malcolm and Yeves Degen playing Chauffeur de bus.

Part Two of The End of Time has debuted in Australia to good ratings. The special averaged 840,000 in the five major capital cities, again against stiff competition from the commercial networks, including a 20/20 international cricket match. It was up 40,000 viewers from Part One and was the ABC's top-rating program of the day, rating higher than the popular Sunday 7pm news.

The Sydney Morning Herald TV Guide has rated Part Two of 'The End of Time' its 'show of the week' with Michael Idato writing that it is 'is nearly but not quite the equal of the series's best episodes...it is, instead, a strange ballet of noise and movement, a super-charged run around the block set to the outstanding musical motifs of Murray Gold, which swirls around the simpler truth of the episode's purpose-to give Tennant's Doctor a final, glorious moment of universe-saving indecision and to serve up a helping of sentiment (with a side-order of tears) as he says a fitting goodbye to his life, as we know it, and the lives of those he holds dear.' Idato and Doug Anderson also rate the finale highly in their daily online video TV guide. Melinda Houston of the The Age is less kind, writing of the departure of Russell T. Davies that 'it's been a fun ride but [he] has an undeniable taste for high melodrama and while he's brought some welcome rough edges to the new-style time lord, and a wicked sense of humour, he's also brought a fair whack of sentimental emoting that's not always so much fun.'

Meanwhile, ABC Online's 'The Drum Unleashed' has an amusing blog comparing the different hosts of the long-running Media Watch program with various incarnations of the Doctor.

Part One of The End of Time has debuted in Australia to respectable ratings. The special averaged 799,000 in the five major capital cities, facing stiff competition from the commercial networks, including a one-day international cricket match.

Meanwhile, David Tennant's final appearances as the Doctor has attracted some local media attention. Carolyn Stewart of the TV Week spoke to Tennant about his departure after four years, who expresses his excitement for his successor Matt Smith, saying that 'it'll be fantastic to see what he does with the role. He's a great actor and is full of ambition for the show. He's hungry for it and I'll think he'll be terrific.' Meanwhile Kerrie Murphy of The Weekend Australian writes of 'The End of Time' that while it is 'dense for those not schooled in Who mythology...once it gets going, it mixes the silly humour with adventure and an emotional undercurrent.' Erin McWhirter of the Herald-Sun also comments of the special that it is 'visually appealing and well scripted' but Conrad Walters of the Sydney Morning Herald is less kind writing that 'aside from a few lovely touches...the story is weaker than loyal viewers have a right to expect.'

Official figures released by BARB reveal Doctor Who The End of Time, Part Two was watched by 12.27 million people and was once more the most watched programme of the week on British television.

The figures were finally released Monday, after a delay caused by the implementation of a new data collection system. These final ratings are more accurate than the initial overnight figures, and include those who recorded the programme to watch within seven days of transmission. The figures for BBC One give The End of Time a rating of 11.79 million viewers, second for the week behind the episode of EastEnders which directly followed the regeneration. However, unlike EastEnders, Doctor Who was simulcast on the BBC HD channel, where it was watched by an extra 480,000. If these figures are added to the BBC One number it gives Doctor Who a total of 12.27 million, enough to push the programme to the number one spot for only the third time in its 47 year history.

It makes The End of Time, Part Two the 3rd highest rated episode since the series returned in 2005. Overall the episode has the 25th highest rating in the series history.

The edition of Doctor Who Confidential, looking back at the Tenth Doctor, got a final rating of 1.21 million viewers on BBC Three with an additional 150,000 watching on BBC HD. It was the second highest rated programme on Multi Channel for the day.

As well as being the end of David Tennant as the Doctor, The End of Time also brings to an end the stewardship of Russell T Davies and Julie Gardner. Speaking after the launch of the series in 2005, the then BBC head of drama commissioning, Jane Tranter, spoke about her hopes for the series and the audience it would attract. "I told myself I'd be completely and utterly thrilled if it got 6.5 million" she said, "but there was a little voice inside whispering '4.5 million".

The fact that every single episode since the relaunch has exceeded her highest aspirations show how tremedously successful the series has become. Not only bringing large numbers of viewers to BBC One, but also drawing people towards new services such as BBC Three, the BBC iPlayer and , in the last year, BBC HD. If the number of viewers who watched the End of Time on all platforms is calculated, the total stands at around 16 million, roughly the same as the highest rating ever achieved by the classic series, 16.1 million for City of Death in 1979.

Over the last five years 60 episodes have been transmitted making a grand total of 756 since the series began in 1963. Of those sixty 10 have made the top five programmes of the week, something only one episode from the classic series ever achieved. Twenty Six episodes, over half of those made by the team, made the top ten, with only two episodes falling outside the top twenty.

The top rating story of the era was Voyage of the Damned, the Christmas story from 2007, with 13.3 million viewers, the lowest rating story was The Satan Pit with 6.1 million.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Day One of Torchwood: Children of Earth delivered a record audience for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's digital channel ABC2. The first episode had 190,000 viewers, including time-shifted viewers.

Final figures released by BARB make Doctor Who the most watched programme of Christmas week.

The End of Time, Part One had a final rating of 11.57 million on BBC One, much higher than the initial overnight figure reported. This alone makes the programme the 3rd highest rated on British Television for the week.

However if figures for those watching on BBC HD are included, as they arguably should be given the programme was simulcast on both channels, then an additional 470,000 viewers are added. This gives the episode had a final figure of 12.04 million viewers for its first showing, pushing the programme into the lead as the most watched programme of Christmas week.

This makes the episode one of only two in Doctor Who's long history to have been the most watched programme of the week. It is the 3rd highest rating since the series returned in 2005, only beaten by two previous Christmas specials, Voyage of the Damned and The Next Doctor. It has the 28th highest rating in the series history.

Doctor Who was the fifth most watched programme of the year, only being beaten by the Simon Cowell talent programmes. It was the highest rated programme on all of BBC Domestic Television, the first time this has happened. The previous highest place was 2nd for the year for The Voyage of the Damned which lost out to EastEnders. It was the highest rated drama of the year.

Another 1.18 million watched the repeat of the programme on BBC Three on Sunday, double the initial overnight figure, with an additional 770,000 watching on the iPlayer during the week. If the ratings for those who watched the programme on any platform during the first week after transmission are added together the total stands at an incredible 15.99 million.
