The Return of Reeltime Pictures

Wednesday, 18 February 2015 - Reported by Marcus
Reeltime’s Pictures cult range of Doctor Who interviews are being relaunched through a brand new website Time Travel TV.

Reeltime Pictures will be a name familiar to fans active in the 1980's. Formed in 1984 by former Celestial Toyroom editor and then BBC and Channel 4 employee Keith Barnfather, their remit was to produce high quality content for Doctor Who and Cult TV fans alike. Their direct to video output consisted of original drama, documentaries and Myth Makers - a series of in depth interviews with a whole host of classic Doctor Who stars hosted by Nick Briggs. In the days before YouTube and the internet, is was the only way for many fans to view interviews with the stars and producers of their favourite show.

The new site will initially feature fifty titles for fans to download, stream or purchase on DVD. Included in the initial releases is a brand new Myth Makers: A tribute to Anthony Ainley. With a further 11 titles - old and new - being added every month until the entire back catalogue is released.

Keith Barnfather explained
It would be an impossible undertaking to try and get them all online at the same moment. So what we wanted to do was give a nice big cross section available to start and then slowly release the rest. So people can dip in every month.
Reeltime have already recorded a series of brand new Myth Makers to be released over the coming months. As well as the Anthony Ainley tribute; interviews with special effects guru Mike Tucker, composer Dominic Glynn, seventies producer Graham Williams, writer David Fisher and many more are in the pipeline

Also available will be a number of rare curiosities that have remained unreleased until now including Sophie’s Choice, an early 90’s pilot for an unmade children's documentary series hosted by Sophie Aldred. Later this year will also see the release of a brand new drama from Reeltime, White Witch of Devils End. Another sequel spawned from The Dæmons, this six episode series stars Damaris Hayman reprising her role as Miss Hawthorne.

Later this year Reeltime plan to shoot several Myth Makers with actors from the new series of Doctor Who, hopefully done live at a convention.
What we’d like to do one day is offer live streaming. So if we were doing an event and interviewing people, you could subscribe for the day to actually watch all the programming live streamed. I’d love to put my feet up and watch something like that!
These future plans will only come to fruition if there is enough interest in this initial re-launch.

MediaGuardian 100

Monday, 8 December 2014 - Reported by Marcus
Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat continues his steady rise up through the ranks of the Media Guardian's top 100 most powerful people in UK Media.

The writer and producer comes in at number 84 in this years chart, a rise of three places from the 2013 list. Moffat entered the chart in 2011 as number 92.

The list, which has been running since 2001, attempts to quantify the people with the most influence over the British media and is complied by a team of judges drawn from across the industry.
The debate is not whether Moffat warrants inclusion, but which of his BBC1 shows is more important. Doctor Who wins in terms of sheer volume, plus there was the 50th anniversary special and Peter Capaldi’s debut in the lead role. But it was Sherlock (reinvented by Moffat with Mark Gatiss) that won a hat-trick of Emmys, and it is hard even for a time lord to outshine the star power of its leads, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. Not only are they two of BBC1’s most important dramas, they are also among the biggest earners of the corporation’s commercial arm, BBC Worldwide.
Other BBC personnel listed include the current controller of BBC Drama commissioning Ben Stephenson at number 71, controller of BBC One, Charlotte Moore, at number 25, and the Director of BBC Television, Danny Cohen at number 12. The current Chief Executive of the BBC, Director General Tony Hall was the top British listing coming in an number 4 while the new head of the BBC Trust, the governing body of the BBC, Rona Fairhead, was number 17.

The head of the BBC’s commercial arm, BBC Worldwide, Tim Davie, and the man ultimately responsible for selling Doctor Who around the world, was number 42.

The most influential actress is deemed to be Sheridan Smith at number 62. The former Big Finish actress was lauded for he role playing Cilla Black in the recent ITV biopic.

The top three places in the list were taken by the heads of Google, Facebook and Apple respectively.

Paddington Who?

Monday, 3 November 2014 - Reported by Harry Ward
A Paddington Bear statue designed by Peter Capaldi has been unveiled today at a press launch for the The Paddington Trail. The statue, called Paddington Who?, will be located at Greenwich Meridian from 4th November – 30th December 2014.
Paddington Who? by Peter Capaldi (Credit: London & Partners) Peter Capaldi, the current Doctor Who, and who also stars in the new Paddington movie has combined the bear with The Doctor to create a thrilling marmalade-eating time traveller. Has there ever been a more intrepid, daring and sure-to-find-trouble combination? One word of warning though: beware of the Dalek on his back!

The TARDIS is known to transport The Doctor and his companions through time and space on the TV series, so where better for Paddington Who to end up than right where time begins and ends each day: on the Prime Meridian line?

From here there are a number of ways to explore the world’s history, and possibly its future, with attractions to enjoy such as the Royal Observatory, the National Maritime Museum and Queen’s House. Just make sure you pack enough sandwiches under your hat before you leave home.
Other Paddington Bear statues designed by actors who have appeared in Doctor Who include Bear Necessities by John Hurt (The War Doctor), The Journey of Marmalade by Hugh Bonneville (Captain Avery), Shakesbear by Michael Sheen (Voice of House) and Paddington Jack by Davina McCall (Voice of Davinadroid). A full list of bears can be found here.

All the statues from the trail will be auctioned at Christie’s from 10th December 2014 – 7th January 2015 where the money raised will go to help the NSPCC and ChildLine. Bids for the statues will be starting from £500. Anyone who is interested in bidding for a Bear can register their interest in the online auction at christies.com/paddington.
