Extra tickets to the BBC's 50th Celebration at the ExCeL Centre in London have been made available, with a ballot opening today for applications to buy them.

The convention - which takes place from 22nd to 24th November inclusive - will have a range of activities, including panels with key cast members from 50 years of the programme, special-effects shows, stunt workshops, quizzes, and games.

In a statement, BBC Worldwide said: Applications can be made online or by phone on 0844 693 0780 (charges will vary depending on the provider). Applicants with disability access requirements can discuss these with a team member by calling the dedicated CrowdSurge helpline on 0843 459 4939 (again, charges will vary depending on the provider).

The ballot will be open until 10am BST on Monday 30th September.

One entry is being allowed per person and names will be drawn at random from all of the applications that have been submitted by the closing date and time. Successful and unsuccessful applicants in the first ballot will be notified via e-mail on Tuesday 1st October. If successful applicants do not have a valid e-mail address they will be contacted by telephone. Unsuccessful applicants without an e-mail address will not be contacted.

Those who are successful will receive a unique code to be used by 10am BST on Thursday 3rd October to buy tickets to the convention. The code can only be used once, and up to four tickets can be bought but they must be in the same transaction. The code is only valid for the date and entry group originally chosen in the application.

Should any tickets remain from the first ballot, a second ballot will be opened and all applicants who were unsuccessful in the first ballot will be automatically entered into the second ballot. Ballot rounds will continue to be held until all the tickets have been sold.

The tickets being balloted and sold are the standard ones, with the price remaining at £45 for adults, £20 for children, and £104 for a family ticket (two adults and two children). Please note that these prices exclude any booking fees.

No additional merchandise, photos, autographs, or T-shirts will be available to buy at this stage. The limited-edition TARDIS tickets are sold out and will not be included in the ballot. Full terms and conditions can be found here.

BBC Worldwide have confirmed that The Tenth Planet has been moved forward in the release schedule and will now be released on Monday 14th October 2013. This replaces next month's originally planned DVD release of The Moonbase, which the new edition of Doctor Who Magazine has reported is now expected on 20th January 2014.

The release schedule in the United Kingdom now currently looks as follows:

• 30th September - The Monster Collection
• 30th September - Terror of the Zygons
• 14th October - The Tenth Planet
• 28th October - The Complete Series 7
• 4th November - The Complete Series 1-7 (Blu Ray)
• 2nd December - The Day of the Doctor Anniversary release (this will include the drama An Adventure in Space and Time)
• 20th January - The Moonbase

Update 18th October: An Adventure in Space and Time will no longer accompany The Day of the Doctor.

There are no details at present as to when The Underwater Menace will be released, though it is expected to be during 2014.

BBC Worldwide have released details on their collection of DVDs featuring the monstrous foes of the Doctor.


The collections are due out in the United Kingdom on 30th September 2013.

Voting has now opened for the nineteenth National Television Awards, and it wouldn't be a ceremony if Doctor Who and its stars hadn't been nominated for awards!

Lesley Dunlop has been nominated in the Serial Drama Performance category for her role as Brenda Walker in Emmerdale. Alexander Armstrong is nominated in the Entertainment Presenter category.

Voting is open until 11th October, with the shortlist of up to four from each category announced for the final vote in early January. The ceremony itself will be broadcast live on ITV1 from the O2 in London on 22nd January 2014.


Doctor Who failed to win any awards in 2013, in spite of the series being nominated for Drama, Matt Smith for Drama Performance: Male, and Karen Gillan for Drama Performance: Female (both actors won their respective categories in 2012).

The BBC America series celebrating each of the actors to have played the Doctor will be shown on Watch, the channel's schedule has revealed.

The Doctors Revisited will be broadcast at weekends, with the premiere of The First Doctor to be shown on Saturday 12th October at 2:00pm, followed by the accompanying story The Aztecs; Sunday will then see The Second Doctor at the same time, accompanied by The Tomb of The Cybermen. The following weekend then sees The Third Doctor on the Saturday alongside Spearhead From Space, and The Fourth Doctor alongside Pyramids of Mars on Sunday.

The documentaries were orginally broadcast monthly by BBC America, and were shown in Australia and New Zealand during August by BBC Worldwide's UKTV.

Other programming to accompany the launch of Doctor Who Revisited on the 12th October includes the documentaries The Companions at 4:30pm and Doctor Who Explained at 5:30pm, both of which are repeated before The Second Doctor on the Sunday.


Watch's schedules don't currently extend beyond the 20th October, but based on the pattern above the Fifth and Sixth Doctors are expected for 26th/27th October, Seventh and Eighth on 2nd/3rd November, Ninth and Tenth on 9th/10th November, and the Eleventh on the 16th - completing the series one week before the 50th Anniversary itself!

Catherine Tate will be among the guests joining David Tennant later this month for the question-and-answer panel at the BFI's special event celebrating the Tenth Doctor's era.

The Stolen Earth and Journey's End, which formed the Series 4 finale, are being shown on Sunday 29th September at 2pm when, as reported last month, Tennant will be the headline guest. It has now been confirmed that he will be joined by Tate, with the other guests named as the episodes' director, Graeme Harper, plus producer Phil Collinson and casting director Andy Pryor.

The sell-out screenings are part of the BFI's Doctor Who At 50 season, curated by Dick Fiddy and Justin Johnson.

The 2013 Doctor Who Prom had a final consolidated audience of 1.45 million viewers, a share of 15.1% of the total TV audience at the time.

The show, broadcast on BBC One during the August Bank Holiday afternoon, increased both the share and the audience from the initial overnight numbers, with the consolidated figures including those who recorded the show and watched it within a week.

The show won its timeslot and achieved an Appreciation Index score of 87, with 76% of the audience surveyed saying the programme was high quality.

Over 230,000 have also accessed the Prom on the BBC iPlayer.

The 2013 Doctor Who Prom was watched by 1.2 million viewers, according to unofficial overnight viewing figures.

The show, broadcast on BBC One yesterday afternoon, had a share of 13.3% of the total television audience. The audience built throughout the 75 minute programme, peaking at 1.6 million for the final quarter hour. It won the timeslot beating The Incredible Hulk on ITV, which had 0.9 million watching.

Producer Phil Collinson and director Joe Ahearne will be joining actor Bruno Langley and visual effects designer Dave Houghton as the special guests for the BFI's screenings marking the Ninth Doctor's era, it was revealed today.

The episodes Bad Wolf and The Parting of the Ways - which comprised the Series 1 finale and saw Christopher Eccleston bowing out as the Doctor - will be shown on the big screen on Saturday 24th August.

The Ninth Doctor event is the latest in BFI Southbank's Doctor Who At 50 celebratory season and will start at 2pm. Tickets are currently sold out but returns and stand-bys are a possibility.

Doctor Who Live; The Next Doctor was watched by 6.1 million viewers in the UK, according to unofficial overnight figures.

The audience peaked at 6.9 million viewers at the moment Peter Capaldi was unveiled as the 12th Doctor. The live broadcast was the highest rated show of Sunday, achieving a share of 29.8% of the total television audience. Second for the day was Countryfile with 5.6 million watching, while the evening News, including news of Capaldi's casting as The Doctor had 4.8 million watching.

ITV's highest rated show of the day was Law and Order:UK with 4.2 million viewers. Against the Doctor Who reveal, Tipping Point: Lucky Stars had 3.9 million viewers.

Final official figures will be available next week. The Live show was also broadcast in the USA, Canada and Australia.
