No New Doctor Who in North America Next Week

Saturday, 21 May 2011 - Reported by Marcus
Doctor Who fans in North America will have an extra long wait to watch the conclusion to this week's episode The Rebel Flesh.

The second part of the two part story will not be broadcast on BBC America or Canada's SPACE until Saturday June 4. The reason is the Memorial Day holiday weekend which takes place in the States next weekend. Memorial Day commemorates U.S. soldiers who died while on military service and unofficially marks the start of the summer holiday season. TV schedulers try to avoid planning any new programming over the weekend when a large number of people are away from home.

BBC America will be broadcasting a series of episodes from Matt Smith's time as the Doctor over the weekend. Both channels will show The Almost People, the conclusion to the two part story, on 4th June.

Full listings can be found in This Week in Doctor Who.

Torchwood: The Complete Original UK Series (USA)

Thursday, 19 May 2011 - Reported by Chuck Foster
BBC/Warner Home Video have announced that the first three series of Torchwood will be released as one complete boxed set in both Blu-Ray and DVD formats in the United States:
The BBC’s Torchwood is such a hit on U.S. television, breaking ratings records for BBC America and acclaimed by critics as “sci-fi with attitude” (Chicago Tribune) and “one of TV’s most entertainment of sci-fi romps” (USA Today), that it is being remade for U.S. cable network Starz. Timed to coincide with the premiere of the new series on Starz, BBC will bring together the complete, original UK series in this comprehensive box set.

Separate from the government, outside the police, beyond the United Nations, Torchwood sets its own rules. Led by the enigmatic, ever watchful Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman, Doctor Who, Central Park West), the Torchwood team delves into the unknown and fights the impossible. Everyone who works for Torchwood is young. Some say that’s because it’s a new science. Others say it’s because they die young.

The series have previously been available individually in both formats, and though not specified it is believed the new boxed set repackages the original material from the earlier releases.

Torchwood: The Complete Original UK Series is due out in the United States on 19th July.

Torchwood: The Collection (Series 1-3) is still available to purchase in the United Kingdom in both DVD and Bluray formats.

Additional pre-titles introduction on international broadcast

Sunday, 1 May 2011 - Reported by Chuck Foster
Both the US broadcast on BBC America and the Australian broadcast on ABC1 of the new series of Doctor Who have included an additional introduction before the main opening titles. This has been presented in a form of a reprise through the eyes of Amy of her adventures with the Doctor to date.

When I was a little girl, I had an imaginary friend. When I grew up, he came back. He is called the Doctor. He comes from somewhere else. He has a box called the TARDIS that is bigger on the inside and can travel anywhere in space and time.
I ran away with him and we have been running ever since.
