Episode 1 Overnight Ratings

Unofficial overnight figures show that the first episode of the new series was watched by 8.2 million viewers, a 39.5% share of the audience.

The programme was the most watched on Saturday, beating the second placed Any Dream Will Do by 1.5 million viewers.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on ITV1 was watched by 4.7 million viewers.

The programme also had the highest audience share of the day.

The five minute breakdown shows the audience grew by over 2 million throughout the programme to peak at 9.1 million between 7.35 and 7.40.

Doctor Who was also top of the Children's Top Ten with 1.6 million viewers between the ages of 4 and 16. This was more than double the number viewing the second placed Harry Potter which had 0.7 million children watching.

On BBC3, Doctor Who Confidential was watched by 790,000 Viewers. It was the second most watched programme on multi channel TV, being beaten by Ford Football Special on Sky Sports 1.

The Strongest Link

According to unofficial overnight figures, the special Doctor Who edition of The Weakest Linkwas the most watched non-soap programme on Friday.

5.7 million viewers saw stars from the series battle it out with Anne Robinson, a 25% share of the total TV audience.

This made the programme the 4th most watched of the day, behind the big three soap shows. It was the highest rating The Weakest Link has achieved this year, beating the previous high by nearly 2 million viewers.

The programme easily beat "A Touch of Frost" on ITV1

Over on BBC3, 430,000 tuned in at the start of the evening to watch Donna and The Doctor battle it out with the Empress, in a repeat of The Runaway bride. This made it the 8th most watched programme on Multi Channel Television for Friday.

The ratings for the Friday night repeats of Series Two came to a peak last week with the climax of the series, Doomsday, being watched by half a million people.

This was enough to make Doctor Who the fourth most watched programme on Multi Channel Television for the day.

Canada: CBC Ratings Update

Ratings are finally in for the final two episodes of Series Two on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. On Monday February 12th a total of 643 000 viewers tuned in to watch Army of Ghosts. Monday February 19th saw 458 000 viewers tuning in to watch the series finale Doomsday.

No ratings were available for Fear Her which was broadcast back on February 5th.

The BBC4 transmission of the first episode of the 1968 Patrick Troughton story, The Web of Fear, was watched by 67,000 viewers, according to unofficial overnight ratings.

The story was transmitted as part of BBC4's Tube Night.

An hour later, on ITV1, Billie Piper's performance in Jane Austen's Mansfield Park was watched by 5.9 millionpeople, comfortably winning it's time slot and achiving a 28% share of the audience.

Recovery ratings

The David Tennant/Sarah Parish drama Recovery attracted five million viewers, losing out to ITV1's detective series Lewis, which drew 7.3 million.

Recovery, which aired on BBC1 on Sunday night, had a 20 per cent audience share. It scored an Appreciation Index figure of 86 and was the most enjoyed programme on Sunday night.

Over on Channel 4, Bridget Jones's Diary was watched by three million people, while Five netted more than one million for the film Point Break and 2.3m for the second instalment of The Conspiracy Files, focusing on the death of government scientist Dr David Kelly.

Sarah Jane - Final ratings

The final ratings for "The Sarah Jane Adventures" has been confirmed as 2.92 million viewers, which was 15% of the television audience.

Of that audience 44% was male and 56% female.

16% of the total was under 16, giving a children's audience of 465,000 which was 19% of children watching.

Of the children 51% were boys and 49% girls. 25% were between 4 and 6, 39% between 7 and 9, 23% between 10 and 12 and 14% between 13 and 15.

Final figures are much more accurate than the initial overnights and include viewers who recorded the programme and watched it within seven days.

Doctor Who returned to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation on Monday January 15th, 2007 with the broadcast of The Satan Pit at 8:00pm. Up against The Golden Globe Awards and night two of the season premiere of24 a total of 516 000 viewers tuned in to watch the return of the series after a Christmas break. This was down slightly from the season high 536 000 who watched The Impossible Planet back on December 5th, 2006.

Monday January 22nd, 2007 saw a total of 388 000 viewers tuning into the CBC to watch Love & Monsters. Competition for Doctor Who varies by timezone but included the return of Prison Break, Corner Gas, 24 and the premiere of the second half of the first series of Heroes.

The Runaway Bride - Audience Breakdown

Final data has now been received for the Christmas day showing of "The Runaway Bride". The programme achieved a final rating of 9.35 millionviewers, which was a 38% share of the total television audience.

Of that audience 50% were male and 50% female.

20% of the audience was aged of 4 to 15
9% was aged 16 to 24
13% was aged 25 to 34
19% was aged 35 to 44
17% was aged 45 to 54
11% was aged 55 to 64
12% was aged over 65

The total Children's audience was 1.83m and it was by far the highest rated programme, with those aged 4 to 15, for Christmas week. The children's share was 57%

The Children's audience was more skewed towards the males with boys making up 55% of the audience, while girls made up 45%.

30% between 10 and 12
21% between 13 and 15

Torchwood - Final Ratings

BARB have released figures for the final week of "Torchwood".

The BBC3 showing achieved a rating of 1.23 million viewers and was the most watched programme on BBC3 for the week. Overall it was the second most watched programme on all multi channel TV, being beaten by "Monday night Football" on Sky Sports.

The BBC2 repeat scored 2.14 million and was the 21st in the BBC2 chart.

The final figures show that, after launch, the series settled down with an average audience of around 4 million viewers each week. The Appreciation index for all episodes was above the average for drama and ended with a massive 86 for the final BBC3 programme.
