Fundraising in memory of Nicholas Courtney

Doctor Who fans are collecting donations via the fundraising site JustGiving in memory of Nicholas Courtney, who passed away last week. Funds raised will go to Marie Curie Cancer Care, the hospice charity which cared for Courtney in his last days. Marie Curie Cancer Care describes itself thus:
Marie Curie Cancer Care provides high quality nursing, totally free, to give people with terminal cancer and other illnesses the choice of dying at home, supported by their families. It runs nine Marie Curie Hospices across the UK offering free specialist care for patients and support for families. The charity conducts palliative care research to find better ways of caring for terminally ill people and also funds scientists who investigate the causes and treatments of cancer. RTS Programme Awards nominations

The Royal Television Society has announced the shortlist for this year's RTS Programme Awards.

Although Doctor Who has missed out on a nomination, it is represented in five categories. The Sarah Jane Adventures is up against Tracy Beaker Returns for Children's Drama. David Tennant (the tenth Doctor) and Jim Broadbent, who played the eleventh Doctor in Doctor Who and the Curse of Fatal Death, have been nominated in Actor (Male) for their work in Single Father and Any Human Heart, respectively. Reggie Yates (Leo Jones) is nominated in the Presenter category for his work on Autistic Superstars, which seeked out a cast of talented young people with autism to perform at a music event in London. Reggie has competition from Piers Morgan and Professor Brian Cox.

Also nominated is the Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss creation, Sherlock, which is up against ITV's Downton Abbey in Drama Series. Finally, A History of Horror with Mark Gatiss, which celebrates the greatest achievements of horror cinema, has been nominated in Arts.

The awards will be presented at a ceremony on 15 March 2011 at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London. The evening will be hosted by comedian and television presenter Dara O’Briain.

Doctor Who Tours

Brit Movie ToursFollowing on from last year, Brit Movie Tours - an independent company that runs regular tours of television and film locations - has announced a further season of tours based on Doctor Who that will run through this coming summer.

This year will see a new regular bus tour running in Cardiff. Director Lewis Swan explains:
One of the aims of launching a Doctor Who Cardiff Tour in the Welsh capital is to give fans of Doctor Who the chance to see familiar locations from the TV series and also enjoy the many attractions Cardiff has to offer. With the closure of the exhibition in the bay area the locations bus tour will be able to give fans of the Doctor a fun experience when they visit Cardiff.

As well as Cardiff, the company also runs half-day tours of London locations, and a special three-day tour of locations around London, England and Wales; both include a visit to the new Doctor Who Experience.
