An Adventure in Space and Time wraps

Friday, 1 March 2013 - Reported by Chuck Foster
After some four weeks of recreating the 1960s, today finally saw the completion of principal photography for An Adventure in Space and Time, with producer Matt Strevens saying: "So that's a wrap. It's off down the pub if someone will let me out of this box. Goodbye AAISAT it's been special.". Meanwhile, writer/executive producer Mark Gatiss reflected: "Sadly, the end of the Adventure. But it's far from being all over..."

Nicholas Briggs has spoken about his experience filming the drama in the latest Vortex Magazine from Big Finish:
Mark Gatiss suddenly told me he wanted me to come to the set of Doctor Who: An Adventure in Space and Time and be Peter Hawkins, the original voice of the Daleks. How could I refuse? The production team had already confirmed they wanted me to provide the Dalek voices for this amazing production (Mark’s script is superb!), but now I was given the joyous task of actually being Peter Hawkins. Off to the Wimbledon Studios I went! On went the wig and make-up and the 1960s suit! And there I was, on a studio floor with an amazing facsimile of not only the corridors of the Dalek city from The Survivors, but of the original TARDIS control room and the Totters Lane junkyard. I really did feel like I’d been rocketed down that time tunnel.

The Dr Who 8th Anniversary Special

Friday, 1 March 2013 - Reported by Chuck Foster
The Dr Who 8th Anniversary Special is a follow-up to 2011's The Wonderful Book of Dr Who 1965, this time paying homage to the iconic Radio Times 10th Anniversary Special. Produced by Paul Smith, this volume takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the current series over its eight years, with contributions from a variety of fan writers.

DR WHO ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL

Dr Who, the thrilling television series that follows the adventures of the multi-faced time traveller Dr Who, reaches a very special anniversary this year, one that is a milestone for any drama programme let alone such a completely bonkers one as this. Yes, Dr Who is eight years old!

When Dr Who arrived on our screens in 2005 no one could have predicted what a phenomenon it would become. So to celebrate its continuing popularity eight years on, Wonderful Books has published the DR WHO ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL, a must-have magazine for every fan of Dr Who -- you could call it a 'fan-zine' if such a term existed.

Relive all of Dr Who's astonishing exploits from the very beginning, hardly ever repeated on television since their original broadcast but retold here in all their gripping detail (as well as we can remember them). There are also examinations of each major companion by some of the best writers from among Dr Who's loyal followers, with impressive new artwork. And you can learn exactly how to build your very own Dalek (although we can't take responsibility for the results).

All this for just 530 credits from your nearest Jagrafessian news outlet.

The Special is a 36 page, full colour fanzine which includes a wraparound cover from the toy photographer "Tomfan". Contributors include Andrew Blair, Johnny Candon, Frank Collins, Martin Day, Philip Sandifer, JR Southall, Keith Topping and Alex Wilcock, with artists Jason Fletcher & Westley Smith, Jon Pinto, M Jason Reed, James Taylor, Will Thompson and more.

The Bells of St John heralds Doctor Who's return

Friday, 1 March 2013 - Reported by Chuck Foster
The BBC have confirmed that the second half of Series Seven (termed 7B) will premiere on the 30th March with The Bells of St John, a story written by Steven Moffat and directed by Colm McCarthy. Moffat said:
It's the 50th year of Doctor Who and look what's going on! We're up in the sky and under the sea! We're running round the rings of an alien world and then a haunted house. There's new Cybermen, new Ice Warriors and a never before attempted journey to the centre of the TARDIS. And in the finale, the Doctor's greatest secret will at last be revealed! If this wasn't already our most exciting year it would be anyway!
The episode itself is described as:
Set in London against the backdrop of new and old iconic landmarks, The Shard and Westminster Bridge, 'The Bells of St John' will also establish a new nemesis, the Spoonheads, who will battle the Doctor as he discovers something sinister is lurking in the Wi-Fi.

To tie in with the series return, they have also released a promotional image featuring the Doctor and Clara 'crashing' through the Shard in London:

Both the portrait and landscape versions offer tantalising glimpses of some of the enemies the couple will face in the coming eight weeks ... including the new-look Ice Warriors which have been confirmed as appearing in the third episode. Writer Mark Gatiss said:
I've always loved the iconic Ice Warriors and have been badgering to bring them back for ages. And now they're on a ssssssubmarine! With Russians! I'm a very happy anorak right now.
The episode features guest star David Warner, and resident voice actor Nicholas Briggs has confirmed that he will be bringing the Doctor's old adversary to life.
