With less than a fortnight to go until Christmas Day, bets over which show will top the overnight ratings for the day are well under way, with Doctor Who currently placed as fourth most likely to be most popular at 11/1. EastEnders is the bookies' runaway favourite at present at 1/2, with Coronation Street at 5 3/4, closely followed by Mrs Brown's Boys at 5 4/5.

The Time of the Doctor - New Zealand transmission confirmed

New Zealand's Prime television channel will screen the 2013 Christmas Special The Time of the Doctor on Boxing Day, 26th December, at 8:30pm.

The New Zealand showing will commence exactly twelve hours after the special first screens in the UK.

Prime will also screen two 'marathons' comprising the two most recent Christmas specials and the whole of Series Seven, on 25th and 26th December.

The Christmas Day marathon runs from 9:45am to 3:45pm and includes The Doctor, The Widow And The Wardrobe, the first five episodes of Series Seven (Asylum Of The Daleks to The Angels Take Manhattan) and The Snowmen.

The Boxing Day marathon runs from 8:05am to 4:00pm and includes the remaining eight episodes of Series Seven (The Bells of Saint John to The Name of the Doctor).

Canadian consumer electronics chains Future Shop and Best Buy Canada have announced an exclusive early release of The Enemy of the World and An Adventure in Space and Time exclusively in Canada on Tuesday, December 10th. For this early release both titles will only be available from these two retailers as well as from their websites. Retail price is $19.99 for each DVD.

The Time of The Doctor - BBC poster (Credit: BBC/Ray Burmiston)SPACE is the latest channel to confirm a transmission time for The Time of the Doctor, which will premiere in Canada on Christmas Day at 8:00pm (EST).

Other programming for SPACE in the run-up to the festive adventure includes a marathon run of the Christmas specials from 6:00pm on Christmas Eve, plus another chance to see An Adventure in Space and Time; then from 10:00am on Christmas Day itself the channel repeats the 50th Anniversary special, The Day of the Doctor.


The worldwide transmission time for The Time of the Doctor currently looks as follows: United Kingdom at 7:30pm GMT; Germany at 9:35pm CET (8:35pm GMT); Canada at 8:00pm EST (1:00am GMT); USA at 9:00pm EST (2:00am GMT); and Australia on Boxing Day at 7:30pm AEST (9:30am GMT).

The BBC have released some publicity images to promote this year's Christmas special, The Time and The Doctor, featuring Matt Smith as the Doctor, with Jenna Coleman as Clara.

A further set of images will be published on Saturday.


The evening line-up for British television on Christmas Day shows that this year Doctor Who is up against its old adversary, Coronation Street, also on between 7:30pm and 8:30pm on ITV. Other programming on the main channels include The Two Ronnies 1987 Christmas Special on BBC2, the film Home Alone 2 on Channel 4, and a repeat of The Greatest Ever Christmas Movies on Channel 5. The BBC/ITV 'battle' then continues with Eastenders (8:30pm) and Mrs Brown's Boys (9:30pm) up against Downton Abbey.

In case you need something to watch as your Christmas lunch settles, BBC2 will be repeating this year's Doctor Who at the Prom at 3:15pm, and the anniversary drama An Adventure in Space and Time at 4:30pm.

The Time of The Doctor - Promotional Image (Credit: BBC/Ray Burmiston)The BBC have confirmed that the world premiere of Matt Smith's final adventure starring as the Doctor, The Time of the Doctor, will be broadcast on BBC One at 7:30pm on Christmas Day. The one-hour festive adventure will also herald the much-anticipated debut of Peter Capaldi in the title role.

Orbiting a quiet backwater planet, the massed forces of the universe’s deadliest species gather, drawn to a mysterious message that echoes out to the stars - and amongst them, the Doctor.

Rescuing Clara from a family Christmas dinner, the Time Lord and his best friend must learn what this enigmatic signal means for his own fate and that of the universe.

The Christmas Day line-up sees Doctor Who preceded by a festive episode of Call The Midwife, and evening entertaiment including Eastenders and a Mrs Brown's Boys Christmas Special.


The only other channel to confirm a time so far is FOX in Germany, which will broadcast the episode just over an hour later at 9:35pm CET (8:35pm GMT).
