BBC7 Big Finish Update

Sunday, 6 November 2005 - Reported by Shaun Lyon

The BBC7 website Doctor Who section has recently updated to include trailers for the first two episodes of 'Invaders from Mars', which have aired on BBC7 over the last fortnight. Trailers for the other two episodes are promised shortly. BBC7 has also been running a competition to win copies of the book "Back to the Vortex" with interviews with the author immediately after Part One of 'Invaders from Mars'. Although 'Invaders from Mars' is the last story scheduled in this BBC7 run, there has been a hint this week that there is more to come: a BBC7 message board host said on Wednesday that "Paul McGann will be back as the good Doctor in another new story at Christmas. And that's all I'm saying for now..." The next Big Finish story in the Paul McGann run is 'The Chimes of Midnight', and its Christmas setting makes it the obvious candidate for broadcast - to which the BBC7 host said, "You may well think that... I couldn't possibly comment..."

This year's holiday special "The Christmas Invasion" will air on Christmas Day, December 25, on BBC1. BBC Newsreported the announcement from the BBC, as did the official Doctor Who website. This morning's The Sun says the episode will be sandwiched in between two hour-long episodes of EastEnders "to complete a three-hour telly fest", while the Mirror says that the show will be broadcast against two Coronation Street specials on ITV. The transmission time is yet to be confirmed. The BBC and ITV traditionally battle each other for ratings on Christmas Day.

Season Two Tidbits

Thursday, 3 November 2005 - Reported by Shaun Lyon

According to SFX Magazine, several comments about the second series were made in the commentaries on the forthcoming Series One Boxed Set. We've put these (along with a few comments) into the spoiler tag below; click on it to reveal.

Says SFX: "We’ve been listening to the review discs of the forthcoming Doctor Who season one box set (on sale 21 November), and in the commentaries they let slip a few interesting facts about the Christmas special, and season two. So we thought we’d share!" The items noted include:

In season two, Mickey becomes a proper companion and travels in the TARDIS. (OG Editor: However, he doesn't appear in the entire series)

We "haven’t seen the last" of Rose’s Dad, Pete Tyler (could this be related to the fact that, according to rumours, the Cyberman two-parter is set on an alternate Earth?) (OG Editor: As we announced yesterday, Shaun Dingwall is in the two-part Cybermen story.)

In the Christmas special, Rose’s flat is vandalised... and her mum Jackie is attacked by a Christmas tree!

Also reported elsewhere on the Internet, on various message boards, is the rumored title "Parallel World" for episode 5, although there is no indication that this is anything but a rumor.
