Cold Blood - Overnight Ratings

Cold BloodDoctor Who got an audience of 5.7 million viewers for episode nine, Cold Blood, according to unofficial overnight figures.

The figure was a million higher than last week although the share was down at 27.2% of the total audience. Up against Doctor Who, on ITV1, The Whole 19 Yards had 4.6 million watching.

Doctor Who was the third highest rated programme of the evening coming behind Britain's Got Talent and just being beaten by The Eurovision Song Contest 2010. With Sunday's ratings to come it is the 18th most watched programme of the week.

On BBC Three Doctor Who Confidential had 0.4 million viewers, a 1.8% share and was the ninth most watched programme on multi-channel Television.

Radio Times Story Guide

Radio TimesAfter a brief hiatus, Radio Times is resuming its online Doctor Who story guide.

Radio Times journalists Mark Braxton and Patrick Mulkern with the assistance of Radio Times historian Ralph Montagu are compiling an in-depth analysis of every transmitted Doctor Who story, from a uniquely Radio Times perspective.

There is a wealth of archive material available including links to vintage magazine covers, quirky articles, amusing and occasionally prescient readers’ letters, superb Frank Bellamy illustrations and, from 1970 onwards, every individual programme billing. You can also find some of Radio Times’s own rare photographs.

So far the project covers every story from An Unearthly Child to The Ark in Space, and the aim is to present a new entry on a roughly weekly basis.

Drama Village Update

BBCConstruction company Vinci has been reported as winning the £25m contract to build the new BBC studios. The Construction Enquirer has revealed that the company, chosen by project developers Igloo Regeneration, has beaten other major players in the construction industry to build the the new Media Village at the Roath Basin on Cardiff Docks.

The project is being developed in association with Welsh Government, as reported back in January.

Doctor Who Adventures 168With Amy in peril and an army of Silurians preparing to attack mankind, this weeks Doctor Who Adventures looks back at the best bits from last week’s episode, The Hungry Earth.

There is a sneak peek at the second part of the Silurian story, Cold Blood and an interview with actress Meera Syal, who reveals what she loved about being in Doctor Who.

The magazine also goes behind the scenes on the Croatian set of The Vampires of Venice, and includes a free Doctor Who Yo-Yo and stickers, four Doctor Who posters and a monster memory game.

Colin BakerFans in the north east of England can meet the Sixth Doctor as a special Doctor Who Day at the Temple Park Centre in South Shields on Sunday 6th June.

Colin Baker will be appearing at the event, which runs from 10.30am - 5pm, along with Sophie Aldred who played Ace in the classic series, Terry Molloy who played Davros and Nicholas Courtney who for many years played Brigadier Lethbridge Stewart.

Entertainment includes:

  • Operate a dalek
  • Photos with the actors
  • Sci - fi merchendise
  • Bake your own monster cake
  • Fancy dress
  • Face painting

Colin Baker will present a separate event at 7.30pm that evening, a concert of popular sci-fi themes, movie themes and TV themes, performed by the dynamic SoundPower Orchestra and supported by the shoeshop Quartet, South Tyneside Youth Choir of Aliens and the Poppleton School of Dance.

The LodgerThe BBC Press Office has released details for the eleventh episode of the current series, The Lodger.

The story is written by Gareth Roberts and stars James Corden. It is scheduled for Saturday 12th June.
There's a house on Aickman road, and a staircase that people go up, but never down.

To solve the mystery of the man upstairs, the Doctor faces his greatest challenge yet – he must pass himself off as a perfectly normal human being, and share a flat with Craig Owens.

Vincent and the Doctor - Schedule

Vincent and the DoctorDoctor Who moves to 6.40pm for Episode Ten of the new series, Vincent and the Doctor, on Saturday 5th June.

The Saturday repeat of Junior Apprentice appears to have been dropped following its poor performance last week so Doctor Who's lead for this week will be a repeat of the 2004 film Shrek 2. It will be followed by The National Lottery: In It to Win It 2012.

Doctor Who faces The Whole 19 Yards on ITV1, a game show with Vernon Kay and Caroline Flack. BBC Two is showing Timewatch, a documentary investigating the real story of D-Day, with Channel 4 offering the feature film The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. Five is offering the 2003 film The Missing with Tommy Lee Jones and Cate Blanchett.

The big winner of the night is likely to be the final of Britain's Got Talent, which starts on ITV1 at 7.30pm, and so will not overlap with Doctor Who.

More details on forthcoming DVD releases has been published in the current issue of Doctor Who Magazine.

The August release of Revenge of the Cybermen will feature a commentary with Elisabeth Sladen, who played Sarah Jane Smith in the story and David Collings, who played Vorus, along with the producer at the time Philip Hinchliffe. Extras, which were first listed here, include a 'making of' documentary and archive news footage from the location.

Its companion story Silver Nemesis will have a commentary with the Seventh Doctor, Sylvester McCoy as well as Sophie Aldred who played Ace, director Chris Clough and script editor Andrew Cartmel. Other extras include a documentary looking at the making of the story and deleted and extended scenes.

The September release, Time and the Rani will have a commentary with Sylvester McCoy, this time paired with Bonnie Langford who played Melanie Bush. This will be the first Doctor Who commentary by Langford. They will be joined by the writers of the story, Pip and Jane Baker. Extras on the disc will include a documentary, Last Chance Saloon, looking at the pressures on the series at the time, as well as a look at the first CGI title sequence, interviews with Pip and Jane Baker and Kate O'Mara and archive footage from Breakfast Time and Blue Peter.

The latest SFX Collection is a Vampires special and features The Vampires of Venice on its cover.

Inside is an interview with Toby Whithouse writer of the latest story to feature blood sucking aliens in Doctor Who, as well as an interview with Terrance Dicks who wrote the classic series Vampire story State Of Decay.
