SFX Site Photos

Wednesday, 24 November 2004 - Reported by Shaun Lyon
The SFX site, the website of the science fiction magazine from Future Publishing, has a small handful of new photos from some recent filming done in Cardiff. "The Doctor Who production team are out and about filming on the streets of Cardiff again," says the report. "Our spies contacted us today to tell us that they had blocked off a street in Bute, near Cardiff Bay train station. We don't know which episode they're shooting, but because of the presence of soldiers in red caps, our guess is that they're filming pick-up shots for the two-parter 'Aliens Of London.'" You can see the photos on their site.

Dreamwatch 124 News, Spoilers

Wednesday, 24 November 2004 - Reported by Shaun Lyon
The latest issue of Dreamwatch magazine, #124, contains a couple of spoilers including two possible episode names; click on the spoiler tag below for more details. Dreamwatch 124 also features an interview with Insect Design about the development of the new Doctor Who logo... and, revealingly, how it reflects the interior design of the new TARDIS. Insect Design also confirms that the logo will be animated for the opening sequence. The issue is on the newsstands on November 25.
According to Dreamwatch, episode 6, written by Rob Shearman, was to be called Creature of Lies and mentions the title "Museum Piece" as a possible prior working title. Outpost Gallifrey does, however, know that this is an old title for the story, which features a lone Dalek, who it says forms a mental attachment with Rose (Billie Piper).

It also mentions episode 8 as being entitled Death Day, written by Paul Cornell, but Outpost Gallifrey is also aware that this is not the correct title either. As reported widely in rumors on the Internet, Dreamwatch notes the episode features the Doctor and Rose journeying back in time to meet Rose's father, who was going to be played by actorSimon Pegg ("Spaced")... though Pegg is apparently no longer available to play the role due to other time constraints.

Daleks in Batman's Closet

Wednesday, 10 November 2004 - Reported by Shaun Lyon
In the first issue of JLA Classified (by Grant Morrison, an author who also wrote a few Doctor Who strips for "Doctor Who Magazine"), a Dalek make a cameo in Batman's Sci-Fi Closet! On page 24 as Batman talks to Alfred, he tells him that he's going into his "Sci-Fi Closet". Inside that closet, in the lower right of the panel, is the unmistakable top of a Dalek - eyestock and all. (Thanks to Andrew Rubio)

DWM 350

Thursday, 4 November 2004 - Reported by Shaun Lyon
Issue #350 of Doctor Who Magazine has again reached subscribers early (over a week) and will shortly be available on newsstands. Here's a preview of what to expect; click on the thumbnail cover for a larger version.

One note, though, from DWM Assistant Editor Tom Spilsbury: "A few subscribers have alerted us to the fact that their subscription copy of DWM 350 has arrived with pages 11-18 and 35-42 missing, and 3-10 and 43-50 duplicated in their place. Fortunately this problem doesn't appear to be very widespread (touch wood!), and most other subscribers I have checked with seem to have a copy without the problem. All the copies we have had in the office seem to be fine, so if you are one of the people who are affected, could you please send us your copy and we will replace it for you ASAP. The address to send them to is, of course: Doctor Who Magazine, Panini House, Coach and Horses Passage, The Pantiles, Tunbridge Wells, TN2 5UJ. Hope this doesn't spoil the anniversary celebrations too much!" (Thanks to Tom Spilsbury/DWM)
Join the birthday celebrations with issue 350 of Doctor Who Magazine!

In this feature-packed issue, Steven Moffat tells us about how he's coped writing for the new TV series in an exclusive interview: "When you sit down to write Doctor Who for television, you realise 'This is it!' I spent my first two weeks on the script writing about three pages and generally freaking out, thinking 'No, it's not a pastiche of Doctor Who, it's not a comment on Doctor Who ... it is Doctor Who!'"

Meanwhile, there's tons more new series coverage - We get the latest from the Doctor Who production team, as they answer readers' questions in a Matrix Data-Bank special; Gallifrey Guardian pages reveal 17 new cast members, and reports on all the latest news from the Doctor Who set; And, of course, Russell T Davies gives us a few more hints about next year's series in another of his unmissable Production Notes!

Plus - there's all of this ... We've invited some old friends back to celebrate our birthday, so check out all-new special editions of Fluid Links, The Life and Times of Jackie Jenkins, It's the End But... and UNIT Hotline! Meanwhile Tim Quinn and Dicky Howett return with a brand new 'Doctor Who?' cartoon, while Leighton Noyes is back with a new one-off 'Doctor Oho'! And on top of all that, Sorvad returns from the Dark Places of the Inside to choose the best readers' letters of all time in Who Cares!

Our feature on the 25-year history of Doctor Who Magazine brings us up to the present day, in the final part of Happy Times and Places?. Find out about trips to Vancouver, newsagents that bite back, and something about a new TV series ...

The Fact of Fiction spotlights the story that was on television 25 years ago, when issue 1 first appeared - the Tom Baker classic, City of Death! How marvellous!

Our comic strip adventure continues with Part 5 of The Flood - and it's a special nine-page instalment! Will human spirit be able to triumph over the might of the Cybermen?

And all of that's before we even mention the special digitally-restored copy of issue 1 that comes FREE with every copy! (But no transfers, sorry.) You'd be mad to miss this one! DWM 350 goes on sale in newsagents from Thursday 11 November 2004.

SFX Issue 123

Saturday, 25 September 2004 - Reported by Shaun Lyon
Issue #123 of SFX Magazine, due out on September 29, features a conversation with new series producer Russell T Davies. "It was when I saw the TARDIS interior," Davies tells SFX about his most exciting moment. "I was lucky, cause I'd been trapped at home, writing episode seven, and only saw it in studio half-built. So my first sight of it was fully lit, on a glorious wide shot, on the rushes. The second best day of my whole working life." Davies also discusses the Dalek situation: "We had the script written and ready to go, and then the bad news came, that we couldn't forge a deal... So a rewrite was commissioned - same story, new monster. There was no need to think of a completely new story, cause the original idea's so good, Dalek or no Dalek. The script was rewritten - and it was great, we were all really happy with it. It was only a first draft, and still smacked slightly of 'this creature used to be a Dalek'. It would make a good book one day, I suppose, that little bit of Who history. Certainly a good article - there's even some artwork to back it up! But then again, I might still use the New Enemy one day, so that embargoes the material for a few years." Pick up the magazine for full details. (Thanks to Ian Berriman/SFX)
