The Hungry Earth has debuted in Australia to excellent ratings. TV Tonight reports that the episode averaged 914,000 viewers in the five major capital cities, again despite stiff competition from the commercial networks. However, it was not the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's top-rating program of the day, instead coming a close second to a new episode of Agatha Christie's Poirot which averaged 926,000 viewers. The corresponding Confidential Cutdown also rated a solid 635,000 viewers in the five major capitals.

The BBC Press Office has released details for the penultimate episode of the current series, The Pandorica Opens.

The story is written by Steven Moffat and is scheduled for Saturday 19th June.

The previous week's schedule has now been confirmed with Doctor Who moving to 6.45pm for Episode Eleven, The Lodger, on Saturday 12th June.

On BBC One, Doctor Who will be sandwiched between Total Wipeout: The Legends and The National Lottery: In It to Win It.

While the Doctor plays football with James Corden on BBC One, viewers to ITV 1 can see live coverage from Rustenburg where England face the USA in the first round of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The coverage starts at 6.15pm and runs right to 9.15pm right across Doctor Who's time slot although the actual match doesn't start until 7.30pm, just as Doctor Who finishes.

There is more sport on BBC Two, which is showing Formula 1: Canadian Grand Prix Qualifying, live coverage from Montreal. Channel 4 has Channel 4 News followed by the 1995 film Sense and Sensibility while five has the 1992 film Accidental Hero.

TV Tonight reports that Amy's Choice averaged 973,000 viewers in the five major capital cities, again despite stiff competition from the commercial networks and the Eurovision Song Contest final on SBS. This was the program's best overnight ratings since 1.033 million Australian viewers watched Matt Smith debut in The Eleventh Hour. Yet again it was the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's top-rating program of the day, rating higher than its popular Sunday 7pm news. The corresponding Confidential Cutdown also rated a strong 595,000 viewers in the five major capitals.

The story is written by Gareth Roberts and stars James Corden. It is scheduled for Saturday 12th June.

Doctor Who moves to 6.40pm for Episode Ten of the new series, Vincent and the Doctor, on Saturday 5th June.

The Saturday repeat of Junior Apprentice appears to have been dropped following its poor performance last week so Doctor Who's lead for this week will be a repeat of the 2004 film Shrek 2. It will be followed by The National Lottery: In It to Win It 2012.

Doctor Who faces The Whole 19 Yards on ITV1, a game show with Vernon Kay and Caroline Flack. BBC Two is showing Timewatch, a documentary investigating the real story of D-Day, with Channel 4 offering the feature film The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. Five is offering the 2003 film The Missing with Tommy Lee Jones and Cate Blanchett.

The big winner of the night is likely to be the final of Britain's Got Talent, which starts on ITV1 at 7.30pm, and so will not overlap with Doctor Who.

However, for the first week it was not the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's top-rating program of the day, instead coming a close third to the series final of Foyle's War and the Sunday 7pm news. The corresponding Confidential Cutdown also rated an excellent 777,000 viewers in the five major capitals.

Meanwhile, the Sydney Morning Herald and TV Tonight report that, from July, the ABC will replace its high definition network with its new 24 hours news service. ABC HD currently broadcasts Doctor Who but not in full high definition, instead only in a modified 720p format. Doctor Who will continue to be broadcast in standard definition on ABC1.

The BBC Press Office has released details for the tenth episode of the current series, Vincent And The Doctor.

The Richard Curtis story is scheduled for Saturday 5th June. It stars Tony Curran as Vincent Van Gogh and Bill Nighy as Dr Black.

Doctor Who moves back to a 7pm start for Episode Nine of the new series, Cold Blood, on Saturday 29th May.

The new BBC One line up is due to the showing of the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest live from Oslo, Norway at 8pm that evening. Doctor Who is preceded by an edition of The Weakest Link and followed by the National Lottery Saturday Draws.
