Australian Torchwood Coverage

Wednesday, 13 June 2007 - Reported by Josiah Rowe

In the run-up to Torchwood's Australian debut next Monday (June 18), the Australian media have had a few stories about the spin-off. The Sunday Telegraph of Sydney writes about the fact that the series will air on Ten instead of the ABC, the traditional home of Doctor Who in Australia. The Age of Melbourne has a longer feature story, with quotes fromRussell T. Davies andBurn Gorman. Davies talks about the origins of the programme and its attitude towards sexuality, and Gorman speaks about the cast's working dynamics.

The Adelaide Advertiser gives the programme four stars calling the cast 'led by John Barrowman as . . . simply astounding.' Sean Fewster writes that the show 'is cooler than the outside of an Ice Warrior's armour, but one that's bound to attract controversy from the get-go.' The Australian Who magazine also gives the first episode four stars and makes it their 'show of the week'.

Torchwood Series Two in 08

Wednesday, 18 April 2007 - Reported by Jarrod Cooper

In a recent interview with The StageJulie Gardner confirms that series two of Torchwood, set to begin filming on Monday April 30th, will be returning to screens on BBC2 in January 2008.
"Last year, we started filming in March and we were on air with 13 episodes from late September, which was just so, so hectic. And we didn’t really have enough time – it was absolutely frantic from day one of prep, it was all hands on deck.

And so, it just works for the BBC2 schedule that we can go in January. So it’ll just give us a little bit more time in our post-production. Which would be lovely, because we were delivering an episode every single week for transmission. It was incredibly tight. So it was just as well we didn’t have any last-minute technical difficulties last year!"

Lots of great acquisitions to announce, including MI-5 (Spooks to you UKers), the long-running youth soap Hollyoaks (which I love), Hotel Babylon, the new Jennifer Saunders comedy The Life and Times of Vivienne Vyle, Doctor Who spinoff Torchwood, and new seasons of Hex, Life On Mars, and Doctor Who.
