Speaking at the Edinburgh International Television Festival, Steven Moffat has announced that the next series of Doctor Who will be split in two with a 'gamechanging' cliffhanger in episode 7.

"The split series is hugely exciting because viewers will be treated to two premieres, two finales and more event episodes. For the kids it will never be more than a few months to the next Doctor Who! Easter, Autumn, Christmas!!"

The BBC press office describe the split transmission as the result of a request from Steven Moffat to write a new Doctor Who story arc which involves a big plot twist in the middle of the series. "By splitting the series Moffat plans to give viewers one of the most exciting Doctor Who cliffhangers and plot twists ever, leaving them waiting, on the edge of their seats, until the autumn to find out what happens."

The BBC's internationally broadcast channel BBC Entertainment (formerly BBC Prime) is to start broadcasting the third series of Doctor Who, starring David Tennant and Freema Agyeman, in the Autumn. The channel is currently available to watch in Europe and the Middle East.

The BBC has announced that extra content showing behind the scenes material from the Doctor Who Prom will be available to UK viewers via the Red Button service.

Described as a VIP access-all-areas view of the Prom which took place last month, the material will include interviews with Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill and follow their preparations as they get ready to take the stage.

The service will begin on Monday 6th September, the same day the Prom is broadcast on BBC Three. Red Button viewers will also be able to see music cut from the main BBC Three transmission as well as a look at the audience through the eyes of some of the Doctor Who aliens.

French Doctor Who fans are petitioning the French DVD distribution company to release Series Four of the show in the republic.

Organised by the website Beans on Toast the petition calls on France Television Distribution, not only release the series in the French language but to ensure the DVD release is of high quality.

Series 1 - 3 have all been released, dubbed into French, but with none of the extras familiar to English speaking viewers included. The first two series had the English versions of the soundtrack included with French Subtitles, but this was not available for Series Three. There are currently no plans to release Series Four in any form.

To mark the season finale of Doctor Who in Canada on Saturday, July 24th SPACE Channel and the program InnerSPACE are planning a special edition in front of a live studio audience. The InnerSPACE Live Doctor Who season finale and after-show will take place at 299 Queen Street West in Toronto, Ontario. The broadcast will take place from 9pm - 11pm ET. The special broadcast includes a panel discussion, interviews and a live web chat and will be hosted InnerSPACE's Teddy Wilson.

Fans in Toronto interested in attending being a part of the live studio audience call 416-384-LIVE (5483) to reserve tickets. Matt Smith's debut series has concluded in Australia. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation's decision to 'fast-track' the latest series of Doctor Who has been vindicated by excellent ratings, the series receiving its highest consistent Australian ratings since its return in 2005 (and probably ever). The series averaged 928,000 viewers in the five major capital cities over thirteen weeks (these figures also do not include regional, time-shifted and iView viewers) and was normally the ABC's top-rating program of the day. TV Tonight reports that The Big Bang averaged 976,000 viewers in the five major capital cities, again despite stiff competition from the commercial networks. Yet again it was the ABC's top-rating program of the day, rating higher than its popular Sunday 7pm news and Little Dorrit, being the ninth highest rating program for the day overall. The corresponding Confidential Cutdown also rated an exceptional 732,000 viewers in the five major capitals.

The 'fast-tracked' Doctor Who continues its strong ratings in Australia. TV Tonight reports that The Pandorica Opens averaged 890,000 viewers in the five major capital cities, again despite stiff competition from the commercial networks. Yet again it was the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's top-rating program of the day, rating higher than its popular Sunday 7pm news and Little Dorrit (the latter which only averaged 645,000 viewers in the five major capitals) being the eleventh highest rating program for the day overall. The corresponding Confidential Cutdown also rated an excellent 670,000 viewers in the five major capitals.

The 'fast-tracked' Doctor Who continues its excellent ratings in Australia. TV Tonight reports that The Lodger averaged 983,000 viewers in the five major capital cities, again despite stiff competition from the commercial networks. This was 88,000 more viewers than the previous week and the program's best overnight ratings since 1.033 million Australian viewers watched Matt Smith debut in The Eleventh Hour. Yet again it was the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's top-rating program of the day, rating higher than its popular Sunday 7pm news and Little Dorrit, being the tenth highest rating program for the day overall. The corresponding Confidential Cutdown also rated an excellent 664,000 viewers in the five major capitals.
