Big Finish have announced the details for the Eleventh Season of the Bernice Summerfield Adventures.

Bernice Surprise Summerfield was originally created by Paul Cornell as a new companion of the Seventh Doctor in Virgin Publishing's range of Doctor Who Novels. Big Finish have been producing audio plays featuring the character since September 1998.

Four new audio adventures will be released this year, plus a new hardback collection of short stories. This eleventh season of stories, starring the archaeologist from the 26th Century, will begin with a two-part conclusion to the long-running ‘Braxiatel’ story arc. The season midpoint, starting with the third release, will mark a new beginning in a new setting.

Story producer John Ainsworth says:
The series kicks off with what is effectively a two-part adventure, Resurrecting the Past (August) and Escaping the Future (September), both by Eddie Robson and starring all the regular supporting characters from The Collection. Robson, who is also editor of this year’s hardback book, Present Danger, the events of which are set between his two audio plays, says Present Danger will be published in September and includes stories by Kate Orman, Lance Parkin, Mark Clapham and Simon Guerrier.

Summerfield gets a new start from the third audio release in October with Year Zero by Jonathan Clements. This is followed in November by Dead Man’s Switch by John Dorney and Richard Dinnick. Each is very much a self-contained tale but both fit into a new story arc that will continue and conclude in Season 12. This new beginning takes the character back to basics and once again focuses on her skills and experience as an archaeologist.

Big Finish have also confirmed they have commissioned a second season of Jago and Litefoot.

The first season of adventures featuring the characters of Henry Gordon Jago and Professor George Litefoot will be released next month. The duo first appeared as supporting characters in the classic Tom Baker story The Talons of Weng-Chiang.

Season Two, which will also be released in a five-disc box set, will be available in January 2011.

The Telegraph has released more details of its Audio Adventures give-away starting this weekend, first reported here.

On Saturday the paper will include a brand new adventure for the Eleventh Doctor, The Runaway Train read by Matt Smith, followed on Sunday by part one of Pest Control, read by David Tennant.

Over the following week the paper will print vouchers which can be exchanged in WH Smith for a range of Doctor Who Audio Adventures.

The Telegraph is to give away a series of Doctor Who Audio adventures starting next weekend with an early release of Matt Smith reading a brand new adventure for the Eleventh Doctor, The Runaway Train. It is understood this will be in the paper on Saturday 24th April.

The news comes from Doctor Who author Peter Anghelides, whose own story, Pest Control, featuring the Tenth Doctor and read by David Tennant, will be the second story released on the 25th and 26th April.

The promotion is part of a deal with BBC Audiobooks. Commissioning Editor Michael Stevens says
Other stories included are: Slipback, the Colin Baker story originally heard on BBC Radio 4 in 1985; Genesis of the Daleks and Exploration Earth featuring Tom Baker and Elisabeth Sladen; and finally Mission to the Unknown, the soundtrack of the 1965 story, which was the one Doctor Who television episode not to feature the Doctor or any of his companions.

Answering questions on his official website, Fourth Doctor Tom Baker has said that he has agreed to record a Big Finish Audio production.

Baker was answering a question asking what story he would do if he was given carte blanche to create any story he wanted. He replied that he has been in talks with Big Finish and that they have accepted some of his ideas. Baker recorded Hornets' Nest for BBC Audio last year, but has never worked for Big Finish before. Any project is likely to be in early stages of production and has not been confirmed by Big Finish. (But see update below.)

So, to summarize: as the Nucleus of the Swarm once said, contact has been made; however, nothing solid is yet in the works.

According to an interview that appeared in today's Rutherglen Reformer, Andrew Smith, author of the 1980 Doctor Who serial Full Circle, has been commissioned for a new script by Big Finish.

Smith wrote Full Circle at the age of 18. The story involved the Fourth Doctor, Romana and K9 entering the universe of E-Space. The story is notorious for introducing the character of Adric.

The new script, entitled Invasion of E-Space, has been written for the Companions Chronicles line with Lalla Ward as Romana telling the story, which features the Fourth Doctor and Adric.

Big Finish Producer David Richardson said: “I met Andrew at a convention in Glasgow last year. I was a fan of Full Circle, which was such a clever and inventive script, so I was delighted when he said he might be interesting in writing for Big Finish. It was an instant yes from me - and over the subsequent weeks we set about formulating ideas for a Companion Chronicle featuring the Fourth Doctor, Romana and Adric.”

Andrew told the Reformer: “I wanted the dialogue to sound naturalistic, as if it’s being spoken, not read off the page. You want it to sound like a normal conversation, not an unrealistic description of green and verdant hills, or whatever. I've done the first draft, and this is with (script editor) Jac Rayner now, while David at Big Finish is reading it. They will come back with notes and I'll do the next draft in the next two or three weeks."

Big Finish announced today details of the upcoming three-story season of Fifth Doctor stories, featuring Peter Davison as the Doctor, Sarah Sutton as Nyssa, Janet Fielding as Tegan and Mark Strickson as Turlough, the first time this TARDIS team had acted together since 1983.

According to executive producer Nicholas Briggs, "The three stories were recorded just after Christmas, and everyone was on brilliant form. It was quite thrilling to hear [the cast] recreating their roles so authentically. These adventures sound just like they've fallen through a time warp!"

He aded: “The mood during the recording was quite rambunctious and everyone had such a brilliant time that I wouldn’t be surprised to see this team reunited again some time in the near future…”

The series will debut in July, and the first story released will be Cobwebs by Jonathan Morris. The story guest-stars Helen Griffin (Mrs. Moore in "Rise of the Cybermen"), Raymond Coulthard of Hotel Babylon and Adrian Lukis (Peak Practice). The TARDIS crew lands on a scientific base and it becomes obvious that they've been there before...only for them it hasn't happened yet.

The second story is The Whispering Forest by Stephen Cole, set on an alien world where a colony has become obsessed with cleanliness – while strange creatures are prowling among the trees. The guest cast includes Paul Shelley (previously Persuasion in "Four to Doomsday"), Harry Melling (Dudley Dursley in the Harry Potter films...and Patrick Troughton's grandson) and Hayley Atwell (recently in the Prisoner remake).

Wrapping up the series, with the blessings of original creator Christopher Bailey, the Mara makes a welcome return in The Cradle of the Snake by Marc Platt, in which the TARDIS crew revisits the planet Manussa. “When we knew we could get these characters back together, we realised we wanted to bring back the Mara because it was an iconic monster from the Davison era,” says Briggs. "Marc Platt seemed the obvious choice to write it – because Marc does ‘weird’ so wonderfully!”

John Barrowman has recorded a new track called The Doctor and I. The song is based on "The Wizard and I" from the Stephen Schwartz musical, Wicked. The lyrics have been changed to have references to The Doctor and Captain Jack.

Barrowman has performed the song at some of his previous concerts and it gets its first ever radio play this Sunday during Elaine Paige on Sunday on BBC Radio 2, available in the UK on FM and around the world on the BBC IPlayer.

Barrowman will be a guest on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross tonight.

The audio documentary Doctor Who at the BBC: A Legend Reborn has been delayed due to problems clearing some of the material on the disc.

The CD was due to be released by BBC Audiobooks on Thursday. However, when compiling the master tape a small amount of material was included for which BBC Audiobooks were unable to obtain clearance. As a result the disc has been recalled and a new master is being produced.

A small number of discs were distributed before the problem was realised, giving the recipients a rare unedited version of the documentary.

The new version will hopefully be released on 11th February.

The latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine reveals that The TV Movie will be re-released on DVD as a special edition in 2010.

The special, which stars Paul McGann in his only television appearence as the Eighth Doctor, was first shown in 1996. The new release will be part of the "Revisitaions" box set, which will consist of new editions of stories that were previously released in the early days of the DVD range.

The TV Move special edition will include a documentary called The Seven Year Hitch, which looks at producer Philip Segal's long quest to get the project into production and talks to Segal himself, as well as writer Matthew Jacobs and the then-BBC One controller Alan Yentob.

There is no confirmed release date for the Box Set, nor is it known if the story will finally be available in North America.


Also in DWM is news that Jamie and Zoe will be reunited in a new three-part Big Finish story in 2010. Wendy Padbury will join Frazer Hines in a Sixth Doctor story starring Colin Baker. The first story, City of Spires by Simon Bovey, will be released in April and guest stars Georgia Moffett. It will be followed by The Wreck of the Titan by Barnaby Edwards and Legend of the Cybermen by Mike Maddox.

The Doctor Who Restoration Team have provided details of the restoration of the UK January DVD release, Peladon Tales. Full details of the extras are listed on the groups website.

On his website, Tom Baker has confirmed he recently recorded a commentary for the DVD release of the Season 15 story, The Sunmakers, with co-stars Louise Jameson and Michael Keating and Director Penant Roberts. Note that DVD commentaries are often recorded way ahead of release.

Tom Baker's audio story Hornet's Nest will be released as a box set on the 12 January 2010 on both sides of the Atlantic. The recording co-stars Richard Franklin. Parts 4 and 5 will be released in the UK on 3rd December.

ABC Television in Australia have confirmed that although The Waters of Mars will be shown on ABC HD, it will not be the genuine HD copy that will be seen, but a SD copy up-scaled. The reason cited is cost with ABC's Director of Television, Kim Dalton, saying the priority for the network is the development of SD channels rather than the HD one. There will however be a move to develop the HD output in 2010. The Waters of Mars comes to New Zealand this Sunday and to Australia a week later.
