An Adventure In Space And Time R2 DVD details announced

Details have been announced of the Region 2 DVD release of An Adventure In Space And Time - the forthcoming drama looking at the genesis of Doctor Who.

The BBC Two production, written by Mark Gatiss and starring David Bradley as William Hartnell and Jessica Raine as Verity Lambert, is due to be shown on BBC Two on Thursday 21st November at 9pm, following its sell-out première at the BFI on next Tuesday, and now BBC Worldwide has revealed that the PG-rated drama will be given an R2 release on Monday 2nd December, with what looks to be a reversible cover plus the following extras:

As previously reported, the drama was originally to have formed part of an anniversary release that also included The Day of The Doctor. Both will now come out separately on the same day.

Puffin Books have announced the author of the final of their e-books celebrating fifty years of Doctor Who as the author Neil Gaiman.

A long-term fan, Gaiman is of course best known in Doctor Who circles for his two scripts broadcast on television, the award-winning The Doctor's Wife and Nightmare in Silver. However, his extensive writing career has encompassed novels for adults and children including Neverwhere, Stardust, American Gods, Anansi Boys, Coraline and The Graveyard Book, and the highly successful Sandman series of graphic novels. Literary honours include the Locus and Hugo Awards and the Newbery and Carnegie Medals.

On his latest contribution to Doctor Who, Gaiman said:

Nothing O’Clock stars the Eleventh Doctor, the Matt Smith Doctor, with Amy Pond as his companion. I set it somewhere during the first season of Matt Smith, mostly on Earth, in our time now and in 1984, but also somewhere else, a very, very long time ago. I had never created an original monster for Doctor Who and really enjoyed getting to create a creepy Doctor Who monster of the kind that we haven’t quite seen before... I hope that the Kin will get out there and occasionally give people nightmares. And that you will be worried if a man in a rabbit mask comes to your door and tries to buy your house.

The e-book is due to be released on 21st November 2013, with BBC Worldwide to upload a brief interview with the writer the the Doctor Who YouTube channel later this month.

Pop-up shop in Melbourne

BBC Worldwide Australia & New Zealand have announced that a Doctor Who pop-up shop is coming to Richmond in Melbourne, with doors opening next Saturday 9th November.

Following the overwhelming popularity of the Sydney and Brisbane Doctor Who pop-up shops, where fans queued for more than two hours to get into the store, this special one-off Melbourne pop-up will feature some exclusive merchandise not currently available in Australian stores. On offer is the Who Home range boasting a selection of homewares, such as teapots and mugs, plus notebooks, tea towels and more.

A limited number of the special edition Tenth Doctor in tuxedo Titan figurines will also be on sale, along with the coveted silver collectible coin from the New Zealand Mint. The highly- anticipated Tenth Doctor's sonic screwdriver remote control will also be available in store, as will the popular range of toys, gifts, DVDs and books that Australian fans love. And as a special treat, fans can get up close to a TARDIS and a K-9.

The event takes place at Shop 2, 177 Bridge Road, Richmond, with doors opening at 9am. Fans are invited to dress up as their favourite Doctor Who character with a small gift given to the first 20 fans to arrive in costume. New Zealand Mint issues 11 Silver Doctors

Following the issue of the gold and silver Doctor Who 50th annniversary coins earlier this year, New Zealand Mint has now released a set of ½ ounce 999 Fine Silver coins featuring all eleven Doctors.

Each Doctor is depicted alongside one of his adversaries, including Daleks, Cybermen, the Master, Davros, Omega, Slitheen, Ood, and a Weeping Angel.

The limited edition set of 11 coins comes packaged in a 3D replica of the Doctor’s fob watch. 3,000 of these sets will be issued worldwide.

The coins are also available to purchase separately, limited to 1,000 of each Doctor.

As with New Zealand Mint’s earlier issues, these coins are legal tender for $1 in the Pacific island nation of Niue.

Tenth Doctor Puffin E-Book Details Revealed

The award-winning Derek Landy has been named today as the author of the tenth and penultimate short story in Puffin Books' e-range celebrating Doctor Who's 50th anniversary.

The Mystery Of The Haunted Cottage, featuring the Tenth Doctor and Martha, will be published globally on Wednesday 23rd October.

When the TARDIS lands on a planet that looks identical to Earth, the Doctor and Martha are amazed to find it packed with fictional characters from her childhood. But who has the power to create an entire world out of books and why? The duo must solve the mystery before their story ends.

Landy, who has penned the Skulduggery Pleasant series of children's books, commented:

I can proudly say that I was one of those kids who hid behind the sofa while experiencing Doctor Who - one doesn't "watch" Doctor Who, one experiences it - and that crazy blend of science-fiction and adventure and horror has made me the writer I am today.

I owe the character, in whatever incarnation, an enormous debt of gratitude, so when I was offered the chance to write a Tenth Doctor adventure my answer was always going to be "yes". The Tenth Doctor, with his love of the spoken word, was practically tailor-made for me, and there is no part of this story that I did not write with the utmost joy. Detective Melody Malone has an unexpected caller: movie star Rock Railton thinks someone is out to kill him – and when he mentions the ‘kiss of the Angel’, she takes the case. At the press party for Railton’s latest movie, studio owner Max Kliener invites Melody to become their next star. But the cost of fame, she’ll soon discover, is greater
than anyone could possibly imagine.

Melody Malone is the owner and sole employee of the Angel Detective Agency in Manhattan. She is possibly married but lives alone usually, and is older than both her parents. Sometimes.

Mr Justin Richards is a noted author of fictional fantasies concerning the continuing exploits of a mysterious traveller in space and time known only as ‘the Doctor’. He has also chronicled the fantastical events of the Victorian era in his novels The Death Collector, The Parliament of Blood and The Chamber of Shadows.

At one time Christmas Day on the BBC meant The Morecambe & Wise Show, a time for families to gather around the TV together. But in the modern era that mantle has now been taken by the Doctor Who Christmas Special. This release brings together the music of the last two which were broadcast on Christmas Day 2011 and 2012 and were watched by a joint audience of close to 20m. This ninth release in the series brings the full canon of Murray Gold’s prolific output up to date, eight years of elaborate and dazzling scores for one of the BBC’s most popular shows worldwide. The booklet for this release is reversible to allow the display of a separate cover for The Doctor, The Widow And The Wardrobe.

Who Girls: 2014 Calendar

Fantom are to release a new calendar for 2014 next week highlighting twelve of the actresses who played the Doctor's companion during the 'classic' era of the series.

This year, Who Girls features Anneke Wills, Sophie Aldred, Deborah Watling, Katy Manning, Jean Marsh, Daphne Ashbrook, Maureen O'Brien, Mary Tamm, Sarah Sutton, Janet Fielding, Nicola Bryant and Louise Jameson.

The calendar is available directly from Fantom's website, with the first 100 orders receiving a copy signed by one of the featured companions.
