The BBC has released a new set of pictures from the first episode of the upcoming Doctor Who spin-off - Class

It's a new term at Coal Hill Academy, and students are preparing for their Autumn Prom. But when the school comes under attack from the monstrous Shadow Kin, four alienated students must form an unlikely alliance to defeat them.

Class is due to be released on the BBC Three channel next weekend, as well as being screened in Australia, Canada and the Middle East.

Classic Series Writer to Contribute Script for Series 10

Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat has confirmed that a scriptwriter from the classic series of the programme will pen a script for the upcoming series.

This will be the first time a writer from the original series, which ran from 1963 to 1989, will contribute to the revived series, launched in 2005. One director, Graeme Harper, has contributed to both runs, helming episodes in 1984 and 1985, and from 2006 to 2009.

Moffat announced the news at a panel at New York Comic-Con, and confirmed it in an interview with Comic Book Resources.

There is no confirmation yet as to whom the writer will be.

Other writers already confirmed for the upcoming series include Frank Cottrell-Boyce, who wrote the 2014 story In The Forest Of The Night, Sarah Dollard, who wrote last years Face the Raven, vintage contributor Mark Gatiss and newcomer to Who Mike Bartlett, best known for Doctor Foster.

Series 10 is due for transmission in the spring of 2017. Full details, as they are released, can be found in the Doctor Who Guide

The Return of Doctor Mysterio - Teaser

The BBC has confirmed the 2016 Christmas edition of Doctor Who will be called The Return of Doctor Mysterio

This year the episode will see The Doctor, played by Peter Capaldi, joining forces with with an investigative journalist, played by Charity Wakefield, and a superhero to save New York from a deadly alien threat.

Steven Moffat, Writer and Executive Producer, says:
I’ve always loved superheroes and this Christmas Doctor Who dives into that world. My favourite superhero is Clark Kent. Not Superman, Clark Kent.
Canadian actor Justin Chatwin, plays Grant in the special, he says:
Working with the amazing people at Doctor Who has been one of the most fun and rewarding projects I’ve ever had the pleasure of being involved with.
Matt Lucas returns as Nardole, a character first seen in last year's Christmas special. He told Comic-con
I thought it would be really exciting to be a real part of it, and I am a big fan of Peter's work and have been for a long time

The BBC has released the first official teaser for the new Doctor Who spin-off series Class.

The first episode is due to be released online on Saturday, 22nd October.

Episode One: For Tonight We Might Die

It's a new term at Coal Hill Academy, and students are preparing for their Autumn Prom. But when the school comes under attack from the monstrous Shadow Kin, four alienated students must form an unlikely alliance to defeat them.

Charlie, April, Ram and Tanya, assisted by their physics teacher Miss Quill, are now charged with a great responsibility by the mysterious alien known as 'The Doctor': to guard against the creatures of nightmare, who want nothing more than to find a way through to Earth and take it for their own.

And this incursion is only the beginning…

David Suchet to appear in Doctor Who

The BBC has announced that David Suchet will appear in the next series of Doctor Who.

Suchet will play the role of The Landlord in series 10, currently being recorded in Cardiff. He will appear in an episode written by Mike Bartlett, best known for writing Doctor Foster for BBC One in 2015

David Suchet is best known for playing Agatha Christie's Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot, in the ITV drama series. He played Augustus Melmotte in the 2001 British serial The Way We Live Now, a role which won him the Broadcasting Press Guild and Royal Television Society best actor awards.

In 2003 he played Cardinal Wolsey in the two-part ITV drama Henry VIII and in 2006, he played the role of the fallen press baron Robert Maxwell in Maxwell.

David Suchet has had an extensive theatre career and has recently been starring as Lady Bracknell in The Importance of Being Earnest at the Vaudeville Theatre in London.

Ralf Little Denies Doctor Who Rumours

Actor Ralf Little has released a video categorically denying he will be taking part in the next series of Doctor Who.

The actor is best known for playing Antony Royle in BBC Comedy The Royle Family . He also played Jonny Keogh in the first six series of Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps. Other roles include the young George Harrison at the Royal Court Theatre, for which he was nominated for an Olivier Award and the title character in Billy Liar.

Little voiced the character of Guy Fawkes in the 2011 Doctor Who online game The Gunpowder Plot

Doctor Who is currently in production in Cardiff with Series 10, the 36th in the series history, expected to be screened in the spring of 2017.

Temporal Logbook II: Open Submission Day

Pencil Tip Publishing will be holding an Open Submission Day on July 31st for their new short-story collection, The Temporal Logbook II.

The Temporal Logbook II, is a Doctor Who themed short-story collection and the follow-up companion to 2015s highly successful collection The Temporal Logbook.

As with the original short-story collection, this new volume will feature twelve original stories by new and up-in-coming writers. All twelve television incarnations of the Doctor will be featured with a story dedicated to that particular incarnation.

The editors are seeking story proposals for the latest collection. To contribute a story proposal all you have to do is:
  1. Submit a 1-2 page outline detailing the basic plot of your story and the characters featured
  2. Provide your full name and email,
  3. Include a brief bio telling us a bit about yourself

The editors will be accepting proposals on Sunday, July 31, 2016 from 12:00pm Pacific Time to 12:00am Pacific Time only. (1900-0700 GMT)

The Temporal Logbook II will be published by Canadian publisher Pencil Tip Publishing, with proceeds from the publication being donated to a charity of their choice. Last year's publication benefited the Positive Living Society of British Columbia.

Publication has been set for 2017.

Piers Wenger appointed Controller of BBC Drama Commissioning

Piers Wenger (Credit: BBC)Channel 4's Head of Drama Piers Wenger is due to return to the BBC this Autumn as its new Controller of BBC Drama Commissioning. Before joining Channel 4 in 2012, Wenger was Head of Drama for BBC Wales and one of the executive producers of Doctor Who to introduce the third Doctor of the modern series, Matt Smith, alongside fellow executive producers Beth Willis and the (then) new lead writer Steven Moffat.

On his new role, Wenger said:
I have had an unforgettable and brilliant time at Channel 4 and it is with real sadness that I am saying goodbye. But the scope and scale of BBC Drama make this an irresistible challenge and I could not be more excited about joining the talented team there and for the new relationships and creative adventures which lie ahead of me at the BBC.
BBC Controller of TV Channels and iPlayer, Charlotte Moore, said:
Piers is a brilliant creative leader with great taste and a passion for writing. He has a breadth of experience and knowledge of the global industry, as well as a real understanding of audiences. Willis, who followed Wenger to Channel 4 as his deputy, will succeed him as Head of Drama at Channel 4 upon her return from maternity leave.

Pearl Mackie On Set

The first offical views of  Pearl Mackie on set has been released through the Official Doctor Who Twitter account.  The first is an image showing her with script in hand and ready to shoot Series 10, in which she plays Bill.
This was accompanied by a 30 second video in which Mackie gives a quick tour of the location shoot, including a view of assembled fans and crew preparing fake snow ahead of shooting.

Series 10 filming begins next week

Matt Lucas and Stephanie Hyam guest star in Series 10The BBC have released details on forthcoming writers and guest appearances for the next series of Doctor Who, due to start filming in Cardiff from Monday next week.

Matt Lucas will be reprising his role as Nardole, which he played in last year's Christmas Special, The Husbands of River Song. Commenting on his return to Doctor Who, he said:
I’m chuffed to bits that Nardole is returning to the TARDIS for some more adventures. I loved acting with Peter and I’m excited to work with Pearl.

Steven Moffat, lead writer and Executive Producer, added:
Delighted and slightly amazed to be welcoming Matt Lucas back on to the TARDIS - and this time it’s not just for Christmas, he’s sticking around. One of the greatest comedy talents on planet Earth is being unleashed on all of time and space.

Moffat is writing the first episode in the new series, which will be directed by Lawrence Gough (who directed Pearl Mackie's introduction as Bill in Friend from the Future. Peter Bennett returns as producer, with Brian Minchin as executive producer. The second episode will also see the return of Frank Cottrell Boyce, who previously penned In The Forest Of The Night in the 2014 series.

Further writers announced for the series include Sarah Dollard who wrote last year's Face The Raven, Mike Bartlett (writer for the multi-award winning Doctor Foster, and veteran Doctor Who writer Mark Gatiss.

In addition to Lucas, Stephanie Hyam has also been announced for a guest role in the new series; the actress appeared in the New Year's Day Sherlock as Jane, and also played Charlotte in Peaky Blinders and Lily Clarke in Jekyll & Hyde.
