The BBC have released details of the BBC Radio Three broadcast of the Doctor Who Prom taking place on Saturday 24 July.

The Prom will be broadcast live on the station from 7.30pm - 9.45pm UK Time, and will be available worldwide on the BBC iPlayer.

We understand the following tracks from Doctor Who Composer Murray Gold, will be included in the programme.

The Madman with a Box (Prologue); An Untimely Arrival; I am the Doctor; Battle in the Skies; Amy; Liz, Lizards, Vampires and Vincent; This is Gallifrey / Vale Decem; Pandorica Suite; Song of Freedom; Doctor Who Theme.

The twenty minute interval will be filled on Radio Three with a documentary looking at the weird and wonderful sound world of Doctor Who's incidental music, Dance Of The Daleks.

Sixth Doctor, Colin Baker, has spent the last few days filming for an independent feature film, Shadows of a Stranger. The film is described as an original tale that 're-samples' Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol in a dark melange of 'ghostly' visitations, psychic travelling, and the search for one's atrophied humanity. It is being shot entirely on bluescreen.

Doctor Who Composer, Murray Gold has given an interview to The Daily Anthenaeum, in which he talks about his work on the series since its return in 2005 and the pressures of the relentless Doctor Who schedule. "There is never more than two weeks for a complete turnaround," he says. "At one point we dubbed five episodes in five weeks. It was almost impossible. I would start an episode and it would need to be finished four days later."

Writer Neil Gaiman has won the Cilip Carnegie Medal, for his fantasy tale The Graveyard Book. The award for children's fiction is the second major award for the novel, about an orphaned boy brought up by ghosts. The Carnegie Medal is awarded annually to the writer of an outstanding book for children. It was established by in 1936, in memory of the Scottish-born philanthropist, Andrew Carnegie. Gaiman has completed a script for the 2011 series of Doctor Who.

The Doctor Who Theme has been voted the third most recognisable theme tune on British television.

The Doctor Who theme was composed in 1963 by Ron Grainer and was one of the first electronic music signature tunes for television. It was originally realised by Delia Derbyshire at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. Since the 1960's there have been several versions of the theme with the latest, arranged by Murray Gold, accompanying the 2010 series.

The poll was conducted by the Performing Rights Society and named the Match of the Day theme as the most recognisable followed by the theme to EastEnders.

The Doctor Who Proms have sold out on the first day of ticket release. The two proms will take place in July at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Tickets went on sale Tuesday morning and the event was sold out by lunchtime. Over 500 Arena and Gallery tickets will be available on the day to members of the public queuing at the Royal Albert Hall. The Saturday Prom will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 and recorded for future broadcast on BBC Three.

Discworld creator Terry Pratchett has questioned Doctor Who's Sci-Fi credentials. Talking to SFX magazine, the best selling author admits he finds the series very, very entertaining, with "its heart in the right place" but thinks "its head is often in orbit around Jupiter". "I just wish that it was not classified as science fiction. Doctor Who’s science is pixel thin."

Ninth Doctor Christopher Eccleston has said he will like to turn his hand to comedy. Eccleston who has recently completed a John Lennon biopic for BBC4, told the Radio Times he had not worked since last year as he selects his TV roles so carefully. "I'm more slapdash about the film choices I make, whereas I choose my TV projects very carefully. But it's a tough time and I haven't worked since December because I'm choosy. I would actually like to do comedy for the rest of my life and surprise everyone and myself."

Two Doctor Who Proms have been announced by the BBC and will take place over the weekend of 24th/25th July 2010.

This will be the second time music from Doctor Who has been featured at the Proms. Founded in 1895, the Henry Wood Promenade Concerts are an eight-week summer season of orchestral classical music concerts and other events held annually, predominantly in the Royal Albert Hall in South Kensington. Since 1927 they have been run by the BBC. In 2008 a Doctor Who Prom showcased the work of Murray Gold, who has composed the incidental music for Doctor Who since its return in 2005 along with other space related pieces of classical music.

The 2010 season will follow the same format comprising a mix of traditional and modern music. The two proms will have the same running order and both will be hosted by Matt Smith and Karen Gillan and feature the London Philharmonic Choir and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.

A number of Who related events have been organised over the weekend.

Sculptress of Sound - The Lost Works of Delia Derbyshire is a new documentary commissioned by BBC Radio 4 to celebrate the life and work of the BBC Radiophonic composer; presented by broadcaster and Doctor Who fan Matthew Sweet, it will investigate the wealth of material of her work that has been passed onto researchers at the University of Manchester.

Production company Made in Manchester's producer Phil Collinge says:
The documentary also examines her work with poet Barry Bermange, her 1971 piece marking the centenary of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, and also includes a 1960s track composed for The Dance from children's programme Noah

The show forms part of the Archive on 4 strand on the radio channel, and will be broadcast between 8:00-9:00pm on Saturday 27th March.

The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra will be presenting an afternoon of sci-fi music, which will feature music from Doctor Who, amongst other sci-fi favourites:The concert will be presented by Alasdair Malloy, a musician who's dedicated much of his life to promoting music to children; talking to the Liverpool Echo about the forthcoming concert:

The soundtrack website Music From The Movies has a new interview with Doctor Who composer Murray Gold, in which Gold confirms that he will be staying on to compose the music for the 2010 series of Doctor Who.

In the interview, Gold discusses composing and recording the scores for "The End of Time" and the other 2009 specials. He also mentions that he has already begun work on a new version of the Doctor Who theme for 2010, and that the forthcoming series will feature scripts by Mark Gatiss and Gareth Roberts.

As previously reported, Doctor Who music was featured as part of the Blue Peter annual children's prom, focusing on the BBC's season of classical music concerts, at Royal Albert Hall in London, highlights of which comprised today's show. One of the pieces of music played by he orchestra was an arrangement of the "Doctor Who" theme, during which a Dalek appeared much to the delight of the children in the audience, wandering around the edge of the orchestra pit threatening to exterminate and so forth, before eagerly pursuing "Blue Peter" presenter Liz after she attempted to interview it. During the performance of the theme tune, there were also some clips shown from the recent David Tennant edition of the programme. (Thanks to Paul Hayes)

John Debney, who composed the music for the 1996 Doctor Who film starring Paul McGann, will be composing the score for the forthcoming Columbia Pictures film "Zathura," based on the book by Chris van Allsburg, as well as the upcoming animated comedy "Chicken Little" and co-composing the score with Graeme Revell for "The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl", according to Cinescape.
