Silva Screen have announced that a new Doctor Who soundtrack will be released early next year.

The soundtrack, which is due for release in February, will cover music from this year's Christmas Special, A Christmas Carol and will include a performance from Katherine Jenkins (Abigail Pettigrew), who will be singing Abigail’s Song

The music is composed by Murray Gold and performed by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Crouch End Festival Chorus. The album will be available both on CD and for download.

ABC have confirmed they will be showing the 2010 Doctor Who Prom on Boxing Day at 5pm, the same day they show the 2010 Christmas Special A Christmas Carol.

The BBC is to screen a previously unbroadcast interview with the late Delia Derbyshire, the woman who realised the original Doctor Who title music.

On Monday 15 November, the West Midlands edition of BBC One's Inside Out will feature excerpts from an interview originally recorded in the late-Nineties by BBC Radio Scotland's John Cavanagh but never broadcast before. In the interview Derbyshire reveals that one of the primary influences on her music, including Doctor Who, were the abstract sounds she heard as a child during the Coventry blitz. The programme also features previously unseen footage of Derbyshire later in life at a Doctor Who fan convention.

BBC Radio 2 presenter Stuart Maconie looks at her career and explores why the woman herself remains a mystery despite her work influencing the world of electronic music, including Pink Floyd and today's modern dance acts. He begins his journey in war-torn Coventry, where Derbyshire grew up, and follows her journey to the Radiophonic Workshop at the BBC. He talks to a range of people, including the man who invented the sounds of the TARDIS, Brian Hodgson.

In 1963, hardly anyone outside of avant garde music circles and academia knew electronic music even existed. But, 47 years on, the Doctor Who theme is probably the most famous piece of electronic music in the world and Derbyshire's lost recordings, discovered in her attic after her death, are being lovingly restored by the University of Manchester.

Uncovered in this episode is the revelation that Derbyshire composed music for an astonishing number of landmark programmes of the day, with the original Doctor Who theme being just a small part of her massive output whose style was described in her own words.

This programme will be broadcast on BBC One in the West Midlands, at 7.30pm on Monday 15 November.

Viewers in the UK outside the region can watch the programme on Freesat channel 963, Sky channel 979, or on the BBC iPlayer.

Silva Screen have announced the track listing for the forthcoming CD of music from Doctor Who - Series Five.

The two disc set is due for release in the UK on the 8th November.

The Radio 4 documentary, Shelved, looking at how the political circumstances of the late 1970s resulted in the cancellation of the Fourth Doctor story, Shada, is repeated on Friday 8th October at 23.30 UK Time and will be available worldwide on the BBC iPlayer.

Toby Hadoke's satirical journey as a Doctor Who obsessive, Moths Ate My Dr Who Scarf, is now in the BBC iPlayer until next Wednesday.

Doctor Who composer Murray Gold has written a foreword for a new book Soundtrack Nation which contains interviews with representatives from the art and business sides of movie and television soundtracks.

Freelance designer Kyle Lambert has been working with IDW on an idea to publish a Doctor Who comic book cover drawn on an iPad using a finger. Although the project is unlikely to go ahead a video showing how they were made has been posted by Lambert on YouTube.

Film and television composer Geoffrey Burgon has died, aged 69.

Burgon composed the music for the Doctor Who stories Terror of the Zygons and The Seeds of Doom.

He went on to win Ivor Novello awards for his scores to the BBC's Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy in 1979 and for Granada's Brideshead Revisited in 1981.

More recently Burgon had won BAFTAs for Best Television Music to Granada's The Forsyte Saga and Channel 4's Longitude.

Amongst many other works, Burgon scored the BBC's Chronicles of Narnia adaptations and the cult Monty Python film The Life of Brian.

Alongside his commercial success, Burgon continued to produce many acclaimed serious works, two of which were an opera based on Dickens's Hard Times in 1991, and a concerto for the percussionist Evelyn Glennie in 1994.

James Rushton, of his publishers Chester Music, said: "Geoffrey Burgon was one of very few composers in recent times whose music has truly touched the hearts of the international public.

"The music and unforgettable melodies that Geoff wrote for the great classic BBC and ITV TV series over the past 40 years have established themselves as standards, both within their genre and as pure music."

Burgon was interviewed for the DVD release of The Seeds of Doom, which is due to be released in the UK on October 25th.

The extended edition of the Doctor Who Prom was broadcast on BBC Three yesterday where it was watched by an average of 0.28 million viewers, according to unofficial overnight figures. The programme had a 1.4% share of the audience. The audience rose steadily throughout the 90 minute programme with the final half hour wining the timeslot on multi-channel television.

Monday's 60 minute version of the programme had an Appreciation Index of 89.

The Prom is now available to viewers in the UK on the BBC iPlayer and a High Definition version of the 60 minute programme will be broadcast on BBC HD today at 5.25pm.

The BBC have also added several clips from the Prom onto their YouTube site. Clips may not be available outside the UK.

Silva Screen have delayed the release of Doctor Who - The Specials, the latest in the line of music from the television series, by two weeks, giving a new release date of Monday 4th October.

The set will feature music from the gap year specials. It has also been revealed that two additional tracks, The Cyberleader Runs Amok and Never Too Old To Shoot And Fly, will be available exclusively on iTunes to buyers who buy the whole album as a download bundle.

Talking about the release Composer Murray Gold said

The Doctor Who Prom was broadcast on BBC Three on Monday where it was watched by 0.52 million people, according to unofficial overnight figures. The programme had a 2.2% share of the audience and it was the tenth most watched programme on multi-channel Television for the day. The first half was the most watched programme on multi-channel TV between 8.30 and 9.00pm, but the second half was out-rated by Benidorm on ITV4.

The Prom is now available to viewers in the UK on the BBC iPlayer and an extended edition will be broadcast on Friday on BBC Three at 7pm.

A High Definition version of the 60 minute programme will be broadcast on BBC HD on Saturday 11th September at 5.25pm.
