Broadcasting Update

According to This Week in Doctor Who, Doctor Who premieres on Norwegian channel NRK2 on Wednesday 28 September at 8:05PM Central European Time (CET). It is titled Doktor Who, and is episode 1 of 13. It will air commercial free. No further information is on NRK's website. This marks the first mainland European country to air the series.
Meanwhile, Dutch TV sender NED 3 have confirmed they will be airing the first series in the Netherlands as of January 2006. This is the first time in many years that Dutch public television has shown any Doctor Who series. (Thanks to Benjamin Elliott, Dean Peirce)

The British Board of Film Classification has released specs on the extras for the forthcoming Series One Boxed Set due out in November, which include the following:

BBC Three Ratings

Overnight ratings figures are in for the current run of repeat showings of the new series on BBC Three:

Rose (17 July) 165,300 1.5% share
Rose (22 July) 139,900 1% share
The End of the World (24 July) 162,000 1.2% share
The End of the World (29 July) 151,500 1.0% share
The Unquiet Dead (31 July) 227,000 1.8% share
The Unquiet Dead (5 August) 89,500 0.6% share
Aliens of London (7 August) 215,200 1.8% share
Aliens of London (12 August) 101,300 0.7% share
World War Three (14 August) 226,300 1.7% share
World War Three (19 August) 200,200 1.4% share

While these figures don't put the repeats in BBC Three's Top Ten (currently reaching 250,000-400,000 viewers), they are comparable to what the channel has achieved with other programmes in the Friday 9pm timeslot (about 140,000), and a marked improvement on the 78,000 achieved by T in the Park on 10 July, the Sunday before the repeats started. New Who on UK Gold

According to UK Gold, the satellite network will begin showing the first season of the new Doctor Who series starting Monday, 23 October, at both 7pm and 8pm and continuing through the end of the week (likely the following Sunday.) There is currently no word as to whether this will be just the single showing or if there are more reruns of this programme in UKGold's futrue. (Thanks to Kenny McGuinness)

New Series DVD Notes

As reported by Radio Times yesterday, all thirteen episodes of Series One on the forthcoming Doctor Who: Series One Boxed Set DVD release in the UK in November will feature commentaries. The commentary for "The Unquiet Dead" will be by Mark Gatiss, Simon Callow and Euros Lynn; other commentaries as noted in the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine will include Russell T. Davies, Julie Gardner and Phil Collinson, although more specific details are not yet available. DVD extras will include "Russell T. Davies' video diary of the first week of filming" and "Billie Piper's own camcorder footage". "Episode-specific featurettes" will include "Deconstructing Big Ben", "Destroying the Lair", "Blitzing London", "Designing Doctor Who" and "Building the Emperor Dalek". The DVD-exclusive episode of Doctor Who Confidential will appear on the fifth disc and will include a "sneak preview" of Series Two alongside highlights of the first series of Confidential.

Ratings Update

The UK repeat showing of "Rose" on BBC3 at 7pm on Sunday 17 July was watched by 165,300 viewers (1.5% share). The Cut Down version of the first Doctor Who Confidential that followed at 7.45pm had 141,500 viewers (1.2%).

New Broadcasters

Some new broadcasting information has come to light, according to Benjamin Elliott of "This Week in Doctor Who". In Hungary, the RTLKlub network will carry the series (although a broadcaster in Denmark has also picked it up, the name of this station is unknown). British Midlands Airlines is broadcasting at least one episode on overseas flights, while Volo TV on the First Great Western Railway in the UK is now offering a lot of TV programs to view, possibly also the new Doctor Who series. Finally, Telewest Broadband in the UK is rolling out a video on demand service to their cable subscribers which will allow viewers to see recent UK TV shows, allegedly including Doctor Who.

New Covers

Several new covers have come to light in recent days. Doctor Who at the BBC Volume Three will be out later in the year; this third audio volume from BBC Audio once again features Doctor Who interviews and radio clips, again narrated by Elisabeth Sladen. Doctor Who Funfax from Penguin Books is "a 96 page 2-ring binder packed with amazing photos and facts from the outstanding TV series. Containing a cool diary, stickers, Doctor Who data, profiles of favourite characters, a fabulous poster and heaps more, this is a must-have item for any young fan of the show". Finally, Nick Wallace's forthcoming BBC Books novel Fear Itself will be out in September and features the eighth Doctor. Click on each thumbnail for a larger version.
