Tom Baker opens exhibition

Doctor number four, Tom Baker, today opened the latest official Doctor Who Exhibition which takes place at the Earls Court exhibition centre in West London.

The exhibition which occupies the the Museum Hall beneath the centre, runs from March 20th until 19th September 2008 and features actual props from the set as well as costumes and monsters from the show. Over 100 exhibits will be on display including the TARDIS, Daleks, Cybermen and many of the Doctor's other enemies from across time and space.

The exhibition is open 7 days a week 10am - 6pm.

Earls Court Expo Opening Date

The Doctor Who Up-Close display at Earls Court will open on March 20, according to the revamped Doctor Who Exhibitions and Museumwebsite.

As reported last month by Outpost Gallifrey, the display will be in the Museum Hall, beneath Earls Court Exhibition Centre. It will include items fromVoyage of the Damned as well as from Series Four after their appearance on the show, says the exhibitions site.

Tickets for the Earls Court exhibition - billed as being the largest Doctor Who display in the UK - go on sale fromFebruary 18.

Meanwhile, the Land's End exhibition will be closed from January 22 to 25 inclusive for essential maintenance. TheBlackpool Doctor Who Museumis shut for the winter and will reopen on February 16.

The Up-Close exhibition in Cardiff remains open seven days a week.

Voyage Items To Go On Show

Items from this year's Christmas special, Voyage of the Damned, are due to go on display in London from next Easter, according to the Doctor Who Exhibitions and Museum website.

They will be among other costumes, props and monsters from the series on show at the Museum Hall, beneath Earls Court Exhibition Centre.

This is not the first Doctor Who connection for Earls Court. In 1997, the Metropolitan Police put up a Tardis-style police box just outside the Underground station, with a closed-circuit TV camera in place of the rooflight.

Exhibition Returns To Space Centre

The Doctor Who Up Close Exhibition has returned to the UK's National Space Centre.

The display in Leicester opened on November 13 and will be there until January 6, 2008.

According to promotional material, it includes Martha's and the Master's costumes, as well as Weeping Angels, Witches (presumably Carrionites), Daleks and Cybermen plus other foes, although the official exhibitions site says there will be just one each of the Angels, Witches and Cybermen, plus a Dalek Encounter.

The centre also hopes to have exhibits from the Christmas special, Voyage of the Damned, in January.

Entry is free for all ticket-holders to the National Space Centre. However, school bookings do not include entry to the exhibition. The centre is open Tuesdays to Sundays. During school holidays, it is also open on Mondays.

The centre, in Exploration Drive, previously hosted an Up Close exhibition from November 22, 2005 to January 8, 2006.

DW Exhibition In Dorking

Dorking Museum in Surrey is hosting a Doctor Who exhibition until the end of February 2008.

According to the museum's website, it features a Dalek, Ice Man (sic), plus "other monsters, merchandise, props, memorabilia and studio items from the first BBC series".

The museum, at The Old Foundry in West Street, is open Wednesdays and Thursdays between 2pm and 5pm, and Saturdays from 10am to 4pm.

Cummins' Work To Go On Display

Drawings by Target Books cover artist Jeff Cummins will be among items on display at Hertford Museum from next month.

An exhibition entitled Devoted To Doctor Who will highlight local residents' passion for the series, and will include work by Cummins, who lives in Ware, a locally-made Tardis, a K9, a Dalek, and a Doctor Who-inspired wallpaper collage by artist Kimberley Bevan.

The display runs from November 28 to April 12. Entrance is free. The museum, in Bull Plain, is open Tuesdays to Saturdays, 10am to 5pm. It will be closed between December 23 and 26.

Doctor Who Up-Close in Manchester

BBC News has reported on the arrival of the Doctor Who Up-Close exhibition in Manchester at the end of the month.

The experience opens on 31st March 2007 at the Museum of Science and Industry and promises to be the largest ever Doctor Who exhibition, with many exhibits which have never been shown before.

The exhibition will run until 5th November 2007.

New venues for exhibitions

Manchester and Land's End have been announced as new locations for Doctor Who Up Close exhibitions this year.

The official exhibitions site says the Manchester display, running from March 31 to November 5 at the Museum of Science and Industry, will be the "largest ever Doctor Who exhibition". People will reportedly have the first chance to see some of the creations from Series Three there.

The museum's website says there will be props, costumes and monsters on display, while 24hourmuseum reports that among them will be items from "The Runaway Bride".

The Manchester attraction's site also has details of a Foto Fun event taking place between February 12 and 18 in which people can have their picture taken fighting a Dalek.

The museum is in Liverpool Road in the Castlefield district of Manchester.

Meanwhile, Land's End will have its own Up Close exhibition from Easter 2007, according to the official exhibitions site, although no more details are available as yet.
