The audio adaptation of the third series of Douglas Adams' classic satire The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy is out on October 25, having been broadcast over the past several weeks on BBC Radio 4. Based loosely on his aborted screenplay "Doctor Who and the Krikkitmen," the story for the third series (which reunited the original cast) eventually wound up as the third book in the series, "Life, The Universe and Everything" and has been adapted for radio and, now, audio. The CD and cassette release includes 25 minutes of exclusive & previously unheard footage. The cover illustration is at right. Meanwhile, series stars Geoffrey McGivern (Ford), Stephen Moore (Marvin), Susan Sheridan (Trillian), William Franklyn (the Book, and recently featured in the Doctor Who audio "The Roof of the World" from Big Finish) and series director Dirk Maggs will be signing the CD's at Forbidden Planet in London on October 30 from 12-1pm. Tenth Planet, in cooperation with Covert Productions, will release Daphne Ashbrook in the UK, a DVD release covering the actress' recent trip to the UK, including her signings and the "Evening with Daphne Ashbrook" event. This was the first time Ashbrook -- best known to Doctor Who fans as Dr. Grace Holloway, Paul McGann's co-star in the 1996 Doctor Who film -- had made Doctor Who related appearances in England. DAPHNE ASHBROOK IN THE UK

When DOCTOR WHO returned in 1996 for a big budget TV Movie, actress DAPHNE ASHBROOK faced the challenge of reinterpreting the classic companion figure for a modern audience. As the quirky Grace Holloway, Daphne brought life to a memorable character and a controversial love interest for PAUL McGANN as the eighth Doctor.

In Summer 2004, Daphne crossed the Atlantic to make her first ever DOCTOR WHO personal appearances in the United Kingdom. This special documentary follows DaphneÆs entire visit, looking back at the world of DOCTOR WHO, and sharing her unique perspective on the show, past and present.

As well as following her public appearances, in a newly shot interview, Daphne offers an in-depth discussion of the making of the TV Movie, the character of Grace and that infamous kiss. Plus we go behind the scenes of DaphneÆs return to DOCTOR WHO in the Big Finish audio adventure THE NEXT LIFE. Along with insights from writers ALAN BARNES and GARY RUSSELL, the Doctor himself, PAUL McGANN, joins Daphne for an exclusive on-camera reunion.

John Scott Martin: Comeback Kid

Tuesday, 10 August 2004 - Reported by Shaun Lyon
BBC News featured an article yesterday about veteran Doctor Who actor John Scott Martin, one of the troupe of four actors who played Daleks throughout the run of the original series... who has offered to step into the costume again for the 2005 Doctor Who series. The article says Martin would be happy to reprise the role if asked. "I really enjoyed doing it before," he told BBC News Online. "I would happily run around as a Dalek again." Martin and his fellow actors were required to "squeeze into a wooden or metal costume, then scuttle around to simulate the Dalek gliding on three caster wheels," and the heat of the costume meant that inside the Dalek's terrifying shell "you would find the actor dressed in only a T-shirt and swimming trunks." "It could be difficult at times and I'm not as fit as I used to be, but I'm sure I could do it again," Scott Martin told BBC News. According to a BBC spokeswoman, there has been no decision made on whether the Daleks would be automated or operated by actors in the forthcoming new series. The Registerand the Telegraph also have the story.

Meanwhile, Outpost Gallifrey has learned that John Scott Martin will appear on Wednesday morning's GMTV program at 6:50am and "some time after 8am". (Thanks to Gavin Collinson, Paul Engelberg, Steve Tribe)
