Daemos Rising

Saturday, 6 March 2004 - Reported by Shaun Lyon
Reeltime Pictures has finally put out a press release for their direct-to-video story Daemos Rising, which has been set for release in March. "Combining elements from Reeltime's previous drama Downtime," says the release, "with the televised Jon Pertwee Doctor Who adventure 'The Daemons,' Daemos Rising features Miles Richardson, Beverley Cressman and Andrew Wisher in a tale of isolation, possession and magic as the ancient race of Daemons are summoned back to Earth. The Video and DVD, the first independent DOCTOR WHO related drama to be produced for five years, also features popular television and film actor Ian Richardson as the narrator." The press release also notes that members of the cast and crew will be at the Invasion convention in March. For more details about ordering the video, which is only available in PAL format, is available at their website; click here to visit. (Thanks to David Howe)

Green Death Details

Monday, 1 March 2004 - Reported by Shaun Lyon
A new article on the restoration of The Green Death for its forthcoming DVD release has been uploaded at the Restoration Team site. "2004's third DVD release is 'The Green Death'," says the article, "which, as 'the one with the giant maggots,' is one of the few Doctor Who stories remembered by the general public and is well deserving of its status as a true classic." You can read it at the RT site now.

The Green Death DVD

Sunday, 22 February 2004 - Reported by Shaun Lyon
The Green Death, the final story of season 10 and the last to feature Katy Manning as Jo Grant, will be the next DVD release in the UK after "Pyramids of Mars," likely out May 10. The DVD includes commentary from Manning, Terrance Dicks and Barry Letts, as well as interviews with effects designer Colin Mapson, writer Robert Sloman and actor Stewart Bevan (Clifford Jones), as well as "Global Conspiracy", a featurette described as "Man Alive's original 70's environmental reporter, Terry Scanlon, revisits Llanfairfach thirty years on, where troubles seem to be resurfacing..." A short piece called "What Katy Did Next" which was announced as an extra by the British Board of Film Classification will not be on the disc due to space issues (not rights issues as we originally mentioned; the disc producers asked for 45 minutes of extras and the Restoration Team was forced to leave off 10 minutes including this and an easter egg compilation of continuity announcements; hopefully they can be included on a future disc.) The release will be a single disc.

North America DVD: Update

Tuesday, 27 January 2004 - Reported by Shaun Lyon
We've learned more about the DVD releases coming in 2004 and early 2005, as Outpost Gallifrey noted in our Sunday news report. Both The Curse of Fenric and The Two Doctors will indeed be out on June 1 (we hope to bring you the cover illustrations as soon as they're available, possibly tomorrow.) Meanwhile, we have been told that Earthshock is indeed on the list of probable releases for the next twelve months, though it was accidentally left off the email BBCAmericaShop sent out to enquiring parties. The DVDs that haven't been "officially" confirmed in the UK -- namely,The Green Death and The Beginning Boxed Set -- should be taken as "potential," in that they would follow UK releases that haven't been officially confirmed yet by BBC Worldwide (but which have been mentioned as possible releases by UK-based retailers). As always, we will continue to report things as we hear them.

North America DVD Update

Sunday, 25 January 2004 - Reported by Shaun Lyon
Updated 1800 GMT: An update for our North American readers on the latest DVD releases. Following this March's release of the already-announced The Seeds of Death (Patrick Troughton) and The Three Doctors (Jon Pertwee, Patrick Troughton and William Hartnell), Outpost Gallifrey has learned that the next two DVD releases here will be The Curse of Fenric (Sylvester McCoy) and The Two Doctors (Colin Baker with Patrick Troughton). We've since confirmed that both will be released on June 1; later this week we will likely have further details as well as cover art for both.

Meanwhile, we have also been informed of developments later in the year: on the boards for the second half of the year or early in 2005, according to the BBCAmerica Shop (at least currently, subject to change as usual) are The Visitation(Peter Davison), Pyramids of Mars (Tom Baker) and The Green Death (Jon Pertwee) as well as The Beginning, which includes the stories An Unearthly Child, The Daleks and The Edge of Destruction. While no new boxed sets have been planned, this might be indication that at least, should "The Beginning" be released in the UK (there has been no confirmation about such from Worldwide), it would also be released in the US & Canada. This is also important to fans outside of North America because it reaffirms rumors that those discs are indeed being planned for later in 2004 or early 2005 in the UK (since BBC America will be following the UK releases instead of creating their own releases, a la "Key to Time".) Surprisingly, no word as yet on the status of Earthshock, the Peter Davison story that was released late last year in the UK. As always, all of this -- except for the June releases -- should be taken as "speculative" (whatever that means to you) until it's confirmed. (Thanks to BBC America Shop, Rob Hunter, Jason Prilby)
