Official: No Delay for Boxed Set in Canada

Tuesday, 24 January 2006 - Reported by Shaun Lyon

Contrary to rumors and reports elsewhere, Outpost Gallifrey has learned that the Series One Boxed Set will, in fact, be released on February 14, 2006 in Canada. There was speculation that, because Amazon's Canada outlet had changed dates, the boxed set's release date had been moved, but we've learned since that the official release date for the series is still mid-February, this according to Warner Home Video. The US release will, of course, wait until July after the series has been transmitted on the Sci-Fi Channel starting in March.

Wednesday, 18 January 2006 - Reported by Shaun Lyon

Amazon Canada today has listed a change in the release schedule for the DVD release of the Complete Series One Boxed Set. As of yesterday, the target release date was February 14; today, Amazon lists it as March 7. There is currently no word on the reason for the possible delay, or any confirmation other than on Amazon that it has indeed been rescheduled.

Canadian DVDs Go Forward, US Plans Unchanged - Update

Friday, 13 January 2006 - Reported by Shaun Lyon

Outpost Gallifrey has learned that, while the planned DVD release of the first season of the new Doctor Who series has been delayed until July due to the acquisition of the series by the Sci-Fi Channel, fans in Canada can rest assured: the Complete First Series Boxed Set will be released there on February 14 as originally planned. (Obviously, eager fans in the US will still be able to import it.)

We've also now been told that there will be no change to the release plans in the US and Canada for the classic series titles -- which will continue to be released in March (which is the already-announced release of "The Beginning Boxed Set" containing the first three stories), June, September and November; the new series set has no effect on that whatsoever.

Also, below are thumbnails of the Complete First Season Boxed Set (the style that will be used in both the US and Canada): both the outer cover (which we've printed before) and the inside packaging; click on each for a larger version. Aus/NZ (and UK) DVD Update

Friday, 16 December 2005 - Reported by Shaun Lyon

According to Data Extract, the news magazine of the Doctor Who Club of Australia, Genesis of the Daleks will be released there on DVD by Roadshow Home Video in April 2006, with Inferno following in June. This meshes with Outpost Gallifrey's previous reports that both DVDs will be part of BBC Video's 2006 DVD release schedule in the UK, although neither DVD have been officially announced yet; we believe "Genesis" will be out in March 2006 in the UK, but as always, it isn't official until it's formally announced.

Boxed Set Brief Update

Tuesday, 13 December 2005 - Reported by Shaun Lyon

The UK version of the New Series Boxed Set, as previously reported, contains several errors, including the inability to play the entirety of "World War Three" from the episodic option. UK viewers are asked to call the BBC help line at 0870 241 0624 prior to returning their discs; they will send a replacement disc as available. Meanwhile, Outpost Gallifrey has been informed that the Australian version of the boxed set has been recalled by the manufacturers because they hold the same problems; there is currently no word about when they will be re-released, although current information indicates it is likely in early January.
