Deep Breath has an audience of 2.6 million on BBC America, the biggest ever audience for a series opener on the channel.

The initial screening, scored 2.2 million, slightly down on the record breaking figure of 2.4 million achieved by the 50th Anniversary story, The Day of the Doctor, last year, but up by 46% on the last equivalent premiere.

The total of 2.6 million includes plays and same-day views.

In the demographic of adults 25-54, Doctor Who had just over 1 million viewers.

During the premiere on Saturday evening, Doctor Who was the most-watched show on cable. It dominated Twitter for the day among TV shows.

BBC America are offering viewers the chance to vote for their favourite regular and special episodes from the modern series of Doctor Who, to be shown across an eleven hour marathon on Sunday 24th August from 10:00am. The poll is open until 12:00pm EST today.

BBC Worldwide, in association with Fathom Events, have announced a special Midnight screening of the Doctor Who season premiere Deep Breath, on Saturday night, in selected cinemas across the United States.

The event will feature bonus content exclusive to cinemas including a prequel before the feature presentation and 'behind the scenes' after.

In addition Spanish cinema chain Cinesa have announced that they will be showing Deep Breath in their Barcelona, Madrid, Oviedo, La Coruña, Sevilla, Bilbao, Valencia, Murcia, Valladolid, Zaragoza and Valencia theatres on Saturday 23rd August at 20:45pm. (with thanks to Papel Psíquico)

The online schedule from BBC America indicates that the channel will now broadcast series premiere Deep Breath at 8:15pm rather than the previously announced 8:00pm - the preceeding Doctor Who: Live Pre-Show is now scheduled for then, in a shortened fifteen minute timeslot.

The alterations may have occured to facilitate the channel's "Takeover Week", which sees the tenth and eleventh Doctors' eras broadcast from The Christmas Invasion on Monday 18th August (with the strange exception of The Idiot's Lantern), leading up to the eleventh's swan-song The Time of the Doctor immediately before the live event. Other programmes during the course of the week include the 50th Anniversary drama An Adventure in Space and Time, all eleven The Doctors Revisited shows, plus the previously reported brand new Doctor Who: The Ultimate Companion and Doctor Who: The Ultimate Time Lord documentaries. In addition, a new programme focussing on the current tour, Doctor Who: Global Tour, will be shown on Friday 22nd August at 9:00pm.

BBC America have announced a series of events taking place in the lead-up and aftermath of the series premiere of Deep Breath in the United States.

During the week before broadcast, the channel will premiere new specials relating to the show, including Doctor Who: The Ultimate Companion on the 16th August at 9:00pm, The Real History of Science Fiction: Time at 10:00pm, and then Doctor Who: The Ultimate Time Lord on the 18th at 10:00pm, which forms part of a marathon week of Doctor Who episodes.

On the day itself, Doctor Who: Live Pre-Show will be presented by Nerdist presenter Chris Hardwick at 7:30pm before the premiere airs at 8:00pm. Doctor Who is then followed by another premiere, Intruders, before the show is once again the focus in Doctor Who: After Who Live at 11:00pm - the show aims to feature a host of guests in studio, including writer/actor Mark Gatiss, plus behind-the-scenes footage.

The day after will see Make Your Own Sunday, featuring the top episodes voted for by BBC America viewers in an online poll that opens on the 6th August.


Meanwhile, as with the United Kingdom, the episode will have a cinematic release in the USA, though this will not be simulcast. Instead, BBC America have partnered with Fathom Events to present Deep Breath in a special screening event taking place in twelve cities from midnight, with full details to be announced on the 5th August.

This will be followed by a wider cinematic release on the 25th August, with over 550 cinemas showing the episode at 7:00pm and 9:30pm, accompanied by the prequel and behind-the-scenes material as seen in the UK (no Q&A).

Tickets are now available to purchase from participating venues and also online from Fathom Events.

US station Retro TV has announced that the classic series of Doctor Who will launch on the channel on August 4th.

The run will see stories aired from each of the first seven Doctors, with just under 500 episodes being acquired by the channel which specialises in airing such classic TV programmes as The Lucy Show, Petticoat Junction, The Beverly Hillbillies, Highway to Heaven, Naked City and I Spy.

The Doctor Who run will begin with the very first episode of the series, An Unearthly Child, first broadcast in the UK in 1963. Two episodes will be shown back-to-back every weeknight at 8:00 PM ET/PT.

Matthew Golden, Luken’s Vice President of Production saidIn addition to the weeknight schedule, a two hour encore block will air on Saturday evenings as part of Retro TV’s new Sci-Fi Saturday. Starting at 6:00 PM ET/PT, viewers can enjoy the supernatural anthology One Step Beyond, Doctor Who and Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Titan Comics have declared 26th July as Doctor Who Comics Day, to celebrate the release of the new range of comics based on the adventures of the Tenth and Eleventh Doctor.

July 23 sees the release of the new ongoing series, which Titan hope to make the biggest Doctor Who comics launch in recent times. To celebrate the company is inviting Doctor Who fans and comic readers to join in with the celebrations.

Doctor Who Comics Day will give fans the chance to celebrate everything Doctor Who with signings, events, special variant covers and promotions in stores and at shows in the U.S.A, Canada, U.K. Australia and New Zealand.

Following on from the World Tour announcement yesterday, both BBC America and ABC have reported via their press releases that Doctor Who will air in the United States and Australia respectively in August, with the former confirming that it will broadcast on the same air date (to be announced) as the United Kingdom.

BBC Worldwide’s ambition for the brand has grown considerably since the global success of the 50th Anniversary which saw the special episode The Day Of The Doctor broadcast simultaneously in 98 countries and in over 1500 cinemas across the world, setting a new record for event cinema in its first three days on general release.

Retro TV, the American network that airs classic television shows, has signed a deal with BBC Worldwide to show classic episodes of Doctor Who across the United States.

The deal will see episodes from the first thirty years of the series screened on the channel, which currently airs such classics as The Lucy Show, Petticoat Junction, The Beverly Hillbillies, Highway to Heaven, Naked City and I Spy.

The channel has a licence to show all the classic episodes that are currently available from BBC Worldwide, just under 500 in all, covering the adventures of the first seven Doctors. 695 episodes were originally made, with 97 still missing from the BBC archives after being destroyed in the 1970's.

The deal was welcomed by Matthew Golden Vice President of Production at Luken Communications. Classic Doctor Who episodes have been seen in the states on Public Television since the 1970's, and selected stories were shown on BBC America to celebrate the series 50th Anniversary.

Doctor Who will makes its debut on Retro TV this summer.
