The BBC has announced that the stars of Doctor Who will be attending this year's Comic Con in New York.

Both Peter Capaldi and new companion Pearl Mackie, will be at the event as well as show-runner Steven Moffat and executive producer Brian Minchin. They will be joined by the cast of Class, the new Doctor Who spin-off due to be released this Autumn. The Class panel includes stars Greg Austin, Fady Elsayed, Sophie Hopkins and Vivian Oparah, as well as writer, creator and executive producer Patrick Ness.

Current Doctor Peter Capaldi will be making his New York Comic Con debut alongside the first ever appearance at a convention by new co-star Pearl Mackie, who plays Bill, the Doctor’s companion.

Previous Doctor Matt Smith and companion Karen Gillan will also be attanding the event, which takes palce at the Javits Center in New York, between October 6 - 9.

BBC Worldwide have confirmed that the 1996 television movie starring Paul McGann will be released on Blu-ray in September. Further details will be available nearer the release date as the sleeve and extras are still being finalised, but according to Amazon UK's pre-order entry it will comprise of two discs.

The TV Movie celebrated its 20th anniversary in May this year.

The nominations for this year's TV Choice Awards have been announced, and sees Doctor Who's Peter Capaldi nominated for Best Actor. He faces Tom Hiddleston (The Night Manager), Cillian Murphy (Peaky Blinders) and Jim Carter (Downton Abbey) for the award, which will be announced at the ceremony taking place at the Dorchester on Park Lane, London, on Monday 5th September.

Doctor Who itself is nominated for Best Family Drama, alongside Call The Midwife, Casualty and The Durrells, an award it won four years running between 2010 and 2013. The show also received an Outstanding Achievement Award in 2013 for its 50th Anniversary.

Voting for the awards can be made via the TV Choice website until 8th July.

The first round of ballots have been issued for this year's Television Academy's renowned Emmys Awards, and for the first time in its 53 year history Doctor Who has been represented as Peter Capaldi has been listed within the Best Drama Actor category for his performance as the Doctor!

There are some 109 names listed in the ballot for this award, including Hugh Bonneville who has been nominated twice before for Downton Abbey; other well-known personalities include Timothy Dalton, Tom Ellis, Michael Sheen, Damian Lewis, David Duchovny and Scott Bakula. Gold Derby, Hollywood's award site, places the odds on Capaldi being nominated at 14/1.

Earlier this year Capaldi's performance was also acknowledged with a Hugo Award nomination for Heaven Sent, and the episode itself has also been entered into the ballot for Outstanding Writing For A Drama Series, up against some 247 other drama productions - the full list is here. The episode's director, Rachel Tallalay said via her Tumblr account: "This is the first year DW is eligible of Emmy’s due to a change in the way it is financed."


Registered members of the Television Academy are able to cast their ballots over which entries will go through to the formal nominations on 14th July, with the Emmys ceremony itself taking place on 18th September at 5pm (Pacific Time) on ABC.

Peter Capaldi has been talking to The Fan Show who asked him to draw his Doctor Who life. Like all good artists he decided to interpret the brief and drew some old Doctors.

Peter Capaldi appeared on a number of programmes yesterday to promote the release of Doctor Who: The Complete Ninth Series on DVD, Blu-ray, and through the BBC Store, during which he also discussed his present and potential future involvement with the show.

Radio Times has reported that, in addition to his usual duties in Doctor Who, Capaldi may also make a guest appearance in spin-off series Class, which is due to commence filming in April.

BBC Worldwide have announced a new deal to provide Doctor Who via video-on-demand in South Korea. The series will be provided by SK Broadband through their IPTV service B TV.

Doctor Who forms part of a package that will include a number of dramas like the recent War and Peace, and documentary series like Africa and Life Story. Soojin Chung, GM of BBC Worldwide in Northeast Asia said:

Peter Capaldi will be appearing at HMV Bond Street in London to meet fans and sign copies of the new DVD/Blu-ray release of Doctor Who Series 9.

The Twelfth Doctor will attend the launch on Monday 7 March from 5.30pm at the OXford Street superstore.

The DVD and Blu-ray contain all 12 episodes from Peter Capaldi's second series in the role, alongside companion Jenna Coleman and guest stars Maisie Williams and Rufus Hound as well as the brilliant Missy (played by Michelle Gomez).

The Complete Boxset also contains the 2014 Christmas Special, Last Christmas and this year's highly anticipated, The Husbands of River Song and more than four hours' worth of extra material.

Peter Capaldi is to feature in a special series of films marking 400 years since the playwright's William Shakespeare's death.

The Complete Walk has been organised by Shakespeare's Globe, the theatre complex based on London's southbank and the location of the 2007 Doctor Who story The Shakespeare Code. The Walk, held over the spring weekend of 23 – 24 April, will feature a series on short films, shown on 37 screens, along a 2.5 mile route on the Thames embankment between Westminster and Tower Bridge.

Each screen will show a ten minute film based on one of Shakespeare's plays, each shot on location in a setting with particular historical and narrative resonance to the story. Capalidi will play the general Titus Andronicus in scenes specially shot in Rome.

Other films include Cleopatra in front of the Pyramids, Shylock in Venice’s Jewish ghetto, Hamlet on the rocks of Elsinore, Henry VIII at Hampton Court Palace and Richard II in Westminster Hall.

Other Doctor Who alumni taking part include Lindsay Duncan in All's Well That Ends Well, filmed in Roussillon; and Meera Syal as Lucetta in The Two Gentlemen of Verona.

After appearing in London, the project will be presented in cities across the UK and internationally, after which the films will be accessible on Globe Player.

Peter Capaldi and Sir John Hurt have both lent their support to the #WearYourNHS campaign, set up to raise awareness of the issues and challenges facing the NHS at present.

The actors are pictured wearing a 'Support Junior Doctors' tshirt, designed by fashion icon Dame Vivienne Westwood. The #WearYourNHS Campaign, spearheaded by Dr Lauren Gavaghan, a Senior Registrar in Psychiatry in London, was started as a means to open up the issue of the Junior Doctors Contract negotiations to the public.

Junior Doctors, working for the NHS in England, have today been taking part in their second one day strike, in protest at changes proposed to their contracts by the Government. The management insist the changes are needed to provide a seven day health service in the future. The Junior Doctors are worried that the changes will spread overworked staff even more thinly and jeopardize patient health.

The #WearYourNHS campaign is a play on the words We Are Your NHS. Gavaghan wanted to encourage people to start thinking about the NHS as they might a shirt worn on their backs, something they may take for granted and only miss if it were gone one day.

This latest stage of the campaign sees Capaldi taking part in a session with photographer Sarah Sheldrake. The pictures show THE Dr and 20 ‘Junior’ Doctors, all from a range of medical specialities including A&E/Emergency Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatric Anaesthetics, GP, Rheumatology, Acute General Medicine, Intensive Care, and Psychiatry, some senior in their specialities.
