DWAS: Back to the Eighties event date changeBookmark and Share

Monday, 18 May 2015 - Reported by Chuck Foster
Back to The Eighties (Credit: DWAS)The Doctor Who Appreciation Society have announced a change of date for their forthcoming event, Back to the Eighties:

Following discussions with our hotel venue in Manchester we have taken the decision to change the date of our event from 10th October 2015 to 24th October 2015. This is for a number of reasons but principally due to the low availability of accommodation in central Manchester over the weekend of 10th/11th October as a result of a Rugby World Cup match being played in the city at that time.

The one day convention takes place at the Pendulum Hotel in Manchester - further details can be found via the Society's website.

Bedford Who Charity ConBookmark and Share

Saturday, 7 February 2015 - Reported by Marcus
A Bedford charity is raising money for the homeless, by organising a Doctor Who Convention, with a special discount for readers of Doctor Who News.

Bedford Who Charity Con is being held on Saturday 11th April, to raise funds for Bedford Foodbank, who provide emergency food for local people in crisis. The organisers do not make money from the event; once costs are covered, all the money raised goes to the Foodbank.

Confirmed guests – subject to work commitments – are Nicola Bryant, Sophie Aldred, Anneke Wills, John Leeson, Terry Molloy, Mike Tucker, Paul Cornell, and Doctor Who’s choreographer Ailsa Berk, who will be leading an Alien Movement Workshop. As choreographer, Berk is responsible for teaching movement to the actors playing the aliens. If you want to learn how to stomp like Cybermen, lollop like scarecrows, lurch like Other Dave when he’s possessed by the Vashta Nerada, or frighten the neighbours by adopting the pose of a Weeping Angel, then this is for you. There’ll also be on stage interviews with the guests, who’ll also be signing autographs and BAFTA award-winning Mike Tucker will be doing a presentation on the special effects in Doctor Who. Plus there’ll be the chance to mingle with the Daleks and other aliens.

Prices are £40 for adults, £20 for those aged 14-18 and £12 for under 14s. Family tickets are available. If you tell the organisers you read about the convention on Doctor Who News you'll receive a 10% discount on these prices.

You can order tickets from the convention website

The Shadow Proclamation - CancelledBookmark and Share

Friday, 22 August 2014 - Reported by Marcus
The Shadow Proclamation, a convention planned for this weekend in Middlesbrough has been cancelled.

A statement was made on the event's facebook page by the organiser Graeme Parry
I am posting this up today as the quickest way of contacting everybody at the same time to let you all know of the sad news that we are having to cancel the event completely due to a range of issues.

All guests will be contacted individually but if you want to pass things on that would be appreciated. Any individual who has paid to attend the event will be refunded shortly.

Thanks for all your help and understanding. I am extremely sorry we have had to do this at the last minute, regrettably I felt this was the best and fairest action to take for all concerned. A fuller message will be sent later with a full explanation.
The convention had attracted a number of high profile guests including Colin Baker, Louise Jameson and Nicola Bryant. However earlier in the day a number of guests pulled out citing major contractual problems.

Colin Baker and Nicola Bryant will be attending WhoCon14 at the Ritz Cinema in Lincoln, which is offering half price tickets to Who Con for any Shadow Proclamation ticket holders.
