The Girl Who Died (Credit: BBC /Simon Ridgway)4.85 million viewers watched Doctor Who: The Girl Who Died, according to unofficial overnight viewing figures.

Doctor Who was the second highest rated show of the day, behind Strictly Come Dancing which had an average of 9.66 million viewers. Casualty was third with 4.61 million watching.

Rugby scored highest on ITV, but with none of the home countries playing, just 4.04 million watched New Zealand defeat France.

The rating, the highest figure for the series this year, was slightly boosted by the late start to the episode, meaning the calculation includes the remnants of the Strictly audience. However detailed figures show the audience rising during the show once the Strictly audience had departed to average around 4.63 million.

Final ratings will be issued next week, which will be based on the exact transmission time for the episode and will include those who record it and watch it later.

Doctor Who is currently the 22nd most watched programme for the week

Under the Lake - Final Ratings
Doctor Who: Under the Lake finished with an official rating of 5.63 million viewers.

The rating issued by the Broadcasters' Audience Research Board, or BARB, includes all those who watched the programme within one week of transmission. It does not include those watching online via iPlayer

The rating makes Doctor Who the 22nd most watched programme for the week on all UK television. It was the 10th most watched programme on BBC Television.

Doctor Who ended higher than Casualty, which beat it in the initial overnight figures, and was the third most watched show on Saturday Night. The Great British Bake Off topped the chart with a massive 12.65 million watching. The most popular Saturday night show was Strictly Come Dancing with 9.27 million viewers.

Doctor Who: Before the Flood had an Audience Appreciation or AI score of 83.

The Appreciation Index or AI is a measure of how much the audience enjoyed the programme. The score, out of a hundred, is compiled by a specially selected panel of around 5,000 people who go online and rate and comment on programmes.

With Sunday's overnight viewing figures now available, Doctor Who finished as the 39th most watched programme of the week. Consolidated figures will be published next week.

The programme had an audience share of 21.5%, up from last weeks share of just 16%, helped by the lower rating for the Rugby World Cup on ITV. This week, with England out of the competition, an average of just 3.51 million tuned in to see the host country play Uruguay.

Top for the day was Strictly Come Dancing with 8.91 million watching, while ITV's highest audience was for the Rugby, but not for the match showing opposite The Doctor. Australia v Wales at 4.30pm had 4.75 million watching.

Casualty edged just above The Doctor with 4.42 million views pushing Doctor Who into 4th place for the day. Doctor Who is currently 33rd for the week.

Official consolidated figures will be released next week.

Ratings The Witch's FamiliarDoctor Who: The Witch's Familiar finished with an official rating of 5.71 million viewers.

The rating issued by the Broadcasters' Audience Research Board, or BARB, includes all those who watched the programme within one week of transmission.

The rating makes Doctor Who the 24th most watched programme on British Television for the week and the 8th most watched BBC programme for the week.

The live Rugby where England played Wales, which took a sizable proportion of Doctor Who's audience, finished with a consolidated rating of 8.96 million. Top of the list was The Great British Bake Off which had a final audience of 11.09 million viewers.

The final rating of 5.71 million is the lowest since the series returned in 2005, although Silence in the Library in 2008, had a lower chart position with 27th.

3.7 million watched Doctor Who: Under the Lake, according to unofficial overnight figures.

Doctor Who, which had a share of 16.3% of the total audience, once more suffered by being placed directly opposite live Rugby, where this week, England V Australia was watched by an average of 8.04 million, to top the overnight figures for Saturday.

BBC One's top programme was Strictly Come Dancing, with 7.92 million watching. Casualty, which was directly after Doctor Who, had 3.77 million, just edging above The Doctor, although the positions are likely to be reversed when consolidated figures are released next week.

Overall Doctor Who was 5th for the day and is currently 43rd for the week.

Doctor Who The Magician's Apprentice has an official consolidated 7 day rating of 6.54 million viewers.

The rating issued by the Broadcasters' Audience Research Board, or BARB, includes all those who watched the programme within one week of transmission.

The final rating is slightly down on last year, where the majority of the season rated around 6.9 million viewers.

The rating puts Doctor Who at the 13th most watched programme of the week on all UK Television, and the 4th most watched programme on BBC One. The Great British Bake Off topped the charts with a consolidated audience of 12.35 million viewers, over 2 million higher than its nearest rival, ITV's Downton Abbey, which had 9.9 million viewers.

The figures do not include those who watched on the BBC iPlayer, where The Magician's Apprentice had over 1.3 million download requests in the week following transmission.

The feature length version of The Magician's Apprentice / The Witch's Familiar had an audience of 0.64 million viewers on BBC One on Sunday afternoon, a 6.4% share of the audience. The programme was once more up against Rugby on ITV, this time Scotland v USA which had an average of 2.1 million viewers.

The Saturday night showing finished as 53rd for the week. Consolidated figures should be available next Monday.

The Witch's Familiar - Overnight Viewing Figures

3.7 million, a 16.6% share of the audience, watched Doctor Who, The Witch's Familiar in the UK, according to unofficial overnight viewing figures.

Doctor Who suffered by being placed directly opposite live coverage of the Rugby World Cup on ITV, where England playing Wales attracted an average of 8.3 million viewers, pushing the overnight audience for Doctor Who down to below 4 million for the first time since the series returned in 2005.

The Rugby coverage topped the day peaking at 10.8 million viewers, a 47.6% share. It pushed Strictly Come Dancing into second place for the day with 7.7 million viewers. Casualty had 3.8 million watching just ahead of the Doctor which was also beaten by the late news resulting in Doctor Who being fifth for the day.

On overnight figures Doctor Who is currently 47th for the week. Final consolidated figures, which should see Doctor Who's audience rise dramatically, will be released next week.

A feature length version of the first two episodes of the series, is being broadcast on BBC One later today.
