The Appreciation Index or AI is a measure of how much the audience enjoyed the programme. The score, out of a hundred, is compiled by a specially selected panel of around 5,000 people who go online and rate and comment on programmes.

Overall Doctor Who rated slightly higher with women than with men and scored the highest within the 16-35 age group. 45% of the sample thought the programme felt 'Fresh and New'.

Strictly Come Dancing topped the ratings for Sunday with 8.84 million viewers, while The X Factor and Downton Abbey took 2nd and 3rd place. Doctor Who is currently in 26th place for the week. Final figures will be published next week.

The Sunday repeat of Kill the Moon on BBC Three had an overnight estimate of 0.29 million viewers, a 1.2% share of the audience.
