Peter Purves Home Fire

Peter Purves suffered a house fire this past Thursday at his home in Suffolk. Says a BBC news report, five fire crews were called to the house at Sibton after a fire started midday Thursday; firefighters managed to save the main property, although the annex where Purves' mother-in-law lives was left badly damaged. An electrical fault in the bedroom of the annex is the purported cause. Purves, known to Doctor Who fans as the actor who played stalwart space pilot Steven Taylor in seasons two and three of Doctor Who, was quoted as saying, "They sent five crews who were all very busy and were amazingly efficient. The next time there's a firefighters' strike, I'm going to stand on the picket line with them." (Thanks to John Dorney)
